Jack Edwards, 90, of Johnston City, departed this life on Sunday, July 20, 2025, at The Anchor Nursing Home in Marion.

Jack was born on February 21, 1935, in Thompsonville to Hester H. and Daisy (Dean) Edwards. On October 2, 1954, he married Modena Pierce. They shared 70 years of marriage together. Jack owned and operated Jack Edwards Backhoe Service until his retirement. Jack loved to hunt in his earlier years and was an avid crappie fisherman. After retirement he and his wife spent their winters in Okeechobee, Florida. He was known to be one of the best fishermen by his many friends.

Jack is survived by his wife, Modena Edwards of Johnston City; two daughter, Joan (Steve) Tolbert of Marion and Judy Moore of Herrin, and daughter-in-law, Lisa Edwards of Johnston City; six grandchildren, Jared Tolbert of Marion, Rhea Korte of Marion, Carli Marshall of Marion, Lerin (Tommy) Richard of Johnston City, Cort (Lauren) Edwards of Pittsburg, and Max (Cailey) Edwards of Pittsburg; great-grandchildren, Kyla Tolbert, Emmalee (Zachary) Wilson, Zoey Tolbert, Riley Korte, Sid (Abigail) Lawson, Gabe Bishop, Cash Richard, Jamerson Richard, Harlow Richard, Finn Richard, Easton Edwards, Loralei Edwards great-great grandchild, Vera Tolbert and Theodora Lawson. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Jack is preceded in death by his parents; son, Eddie Edwards; brothers, Ray Edwards, Theodore Edwards; sister, Mae Edwards and infant daughter, Connie Edwards.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, July 24, 2025, at County Line Cemetery in Thompsonville with Pastor Gary Clark officiating.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Anchor of the Voyage Senior Living in Marion or Hospice of Southern Illinois.

Pyle Funeral Home in Johnston City is entrusted with the arrangements.
