John D. "Jack" Evans, 79, of Johnston City, passed away at 3:00 a.m., Friday, December 26, 2025, at his home.
Jack was born on December 29, 1945, in Paducah, Kentucky, to Harvey A. and Mildred L. (Bohannon) Evans. He was united in marriage to the love of his life, Wanda C. Meeks on June 12, 1965, in St. Charles, Missouri. They shared 60 years of marriage together.
Jack was a graduate of Tremont High School and continued his education at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, where he earned his bachelor's in agriculture sciences. Jack spent his working career as a salesman, selling a little bit of everything, including agriculture equipment and appliances at his store in Johnston City "A & A Appliances."
Jack was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed deer hunting and fishing. He took great pride in his yard and especially loved summers spent mowing the lawn and tending to his garden.
Jack is survived by his wife, Wanda Evans of Johnston City; four children, Jacqueline (Mark) Bledsoe of The Villages, FL, John W. (Amy) Evans of Johnston City, Evan E. Evans of Johnston City, and Nannette N. Evans of Herrin; nine grandchildren, Alex, Catherine, Alec (fiancé, Courtney), Brayden, Cooper, Ria, Kagney (Grant), Adam, and Leryn; great-grandchild, Drake; one brother, Harvey A. (Sharron) Evans Jr. of Salem. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Olivia Brenner.
A celebration of life service will be held at 6:00 p.m., Friday, January 2, 2026, at Pyle Funeral Home in Johnston City with Pastor Andy Lee officiating.
Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Friday, January 2, 2026, at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home the day of the service.
Pyle Funeral Home in Johnston City is entrusted with the arrangements.
