Jack W. Gubbins, Jr., a longtime resident of Pembroke, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 9, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
The beloved husband of 30 years to Robin (Giovannucci) Gubbins, Jack was the devoted father of Linda Gaudreau and her husband Rob, Joanne Gubbins, and Sue Caggiano. He was the loving stepfather of Amy Mulholland and her husband Alvaro, and Dave Mulholland and his wife Anne. Jack was the cherished Papa and Abu to his 11 grandchildren and their spouses, and a proud Big Papa to his 2 great-grandchildren. He was the loving brother of William Gubbins and is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Jack Gubbins Sr. and his wife Mary, and his mother, Dorothy Cudworth.
Jack proudly served in the United States Navy, where he embodied the values of honor, courage, and commitment. He found joy and freedom riding his Harley Davidson, cruising the open road, and finding adventure. He was known for his silly sense of humor - always cracking jokes, making people laugh, and bringing joy to every room he entered. Humor was the heart of his personality, and it was impossible to be around him without smiling. He had a deep love for family and found happiness in the simple moments: sharing stories around the dinner table, playing games, or spending quiet evenings at home with Robin. He was an avid coin collector, bird enthusiast, and fossil hunter, and had a unique fondness for collecting hats - each one with its own story. Jack worked for many years as a Materials Manager at Thayer Scale in Pembroke, where he developed lasting friendships and was respected for his contributions.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during visiting hours on Thursday, October 16, 2025, from 4–8 PM at the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home, South Weymouth (809 Main Street). A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, October 17, 2025, at St. Paul’s Church in Hingham, MA (147 North Street).
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute or the Veterans Association, causes close to Jack’s heart.
The nightly ceremony in Washington, D.C. will be dedicated in honor of your loved one on the day of your choosing.
