Jack Hankins, 97 of Metropolis, IL, passed away on Thursday, March 5, 2026 at Baptist Health Paducah. He was born on September 24, 1928 in McCracken County, Kentucky to Clyde and Alta Hankins.

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Monday, March 9, 2026 at Metropolis First Baptist Church with Dr. Joe Buchanan and Rev. Terry Mathis officiating. Burial will follow in Metropolis Memorial Gardens.

Jack was the general manager of Firestone in Paducah, KY for several years. In 1963, he moved to Metropolis and opened Metropolis Tire. Throughout his working years, he also co-owned H & F Speedy Marts. Jack loved his Lord, and his faith was very important to him. He was a layman preacher for several years at Temple Hill Church and was a member of Metropolis First Baptist Church. Jack was a deacon for many years, where he served widows of the church, a task he took very seriously. Jack was an avid gardener and loved to fish. He lived a full and loving 97 years and is going to be missed.

Jack is survived by his daughters, Karen Wemhoener and husband Robert and Kathy Smith and husband Greg; son, Perry Hankins and wife Michelle; grandchildren, Hanna Wemhoener, Gretchen Johnston (Trevor), Grant Smith, Alayna Smith; great grandchildren, Porter, Carmen, and Ansel Johnston; one brother, Paul Hankins (LouAnn); and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 70 years, Betty Lou Hankins; brothers, C.W. Hankins, Garlen "Sid" Hankins, Harold Hankins, and Jim Hankins; one sister, Jean Jones.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 12 noon on Monday, March 9th at the church.

Memorial contributions may be given in Jack's name to Metropolis First Baptist Church, 307 Massac Creek Road, Metropolis, IL 62960.

Pallbearers will be Marvin Barnhill, Terry Foster, Kelly Glass, Kenny Myers, Todd Sumner, and Robert Wemhoener.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Aikins-Farmer-Loftus-McManus Funeral Home. Condolences may be left for the family online at www.aikinsfarmer-millerfh.com.
