Joyce Hankins Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Castle Ridge Mortuary - West Military Dr. on Mar. 10, 2026.
Joyce Ann Hankins, a beacon of love and creativity, departed from this world on February 28, 2026, in San Antonio, TX, after a brave battle with health complications. Born in Victorville, CA, on November 10, 1952, Joyce's journey of 73 years was marked by selflessness, a passion for the arts, and an unwavering dedication to her family and faith. Joyce's early life was enriched by the love and guidance of her parents, Norman Glen Relaford and Anita Joyce (Barber) Relaford. She found her calling in the field of graphic arts and lithography, earning a Bachelor's degree from Iowa Western Community College in 1995. Her professional path was as varied as it was impressive, from the advertising and printing department at Hinky Dinky Grocery to customer service at Ford Motor Company. In 2001, Joyce's adventurous spirit led her to obtain a CDL, embracing the life of an over-the-road truck driver until 2003. Throughout her life, Joyce's Christian faith was her compass, guiding her through times of joy and adversity. She lived by the words of Mother Teresa, "Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love." This philosophy was evident in every aspect of her life, from her interactions with family and friends to her lovingly crafted handiwork. Joyce's legacy is carried on by her devoted daughter, Neva Marie Mejia and husband David, her son Vincent William Hankins, and her sister Norma Jean Relaford. Her influence will forever be cherished by her grandchildren Cody, Riley, Zachery, Vincent Jr., and Emma Leigh Hankins, as well as her stepchildren Leo Allen Jr, Jodi, James, John T., and Stephanie. Her nieces, nephews, and extended family members also remember her fondly. Joyce was reunited in heaven with her beloved husband, Leo Allen Hankins, who preceded her in death. A woman of many talents, Joyce's retirement years were a reflection of her inner joy and creativity. Her garden was a testament to her patience and nurturing spirit, while her knitting, painting, quilt making, and hand-crafted arts and crafts stood as a tribute to her artistic abilities. She generously shared her knowledge with all who sought her guidance, leaving a legacy of beauty and inspiration. Joyce will be remembered as a creative soul, a selfless giver, and a loving matriarch. Her memory will be a blessing to all who knew her, and her spirit will continue to enrich the world through the beauty she created and the love she shared. As we bid farewell to Joyce Ann Hankins, we take solace in the knowledge that her life was a testament to the power of love, faith, and family
