Mr. Joseph "Jackie" Phillip Hawks, 77, resident of High Point, died January 10, 2026 at River Landing @ Sandy Ridge.

He was born November 1, 1948 in Greenville, South Carolina, a son to Hoyt J. and Phyllis Janet Wall Hawks. At a young age his family moved to High Point where he remained his entire life. Jackie was a 1967 Graduate of High Point Central High School and later attended Western Carolina University. He served in the U.S. Army as a drill sergeant and, after returning home, began a long-spanning career in the finance industry. Many will remember Jackie for his efforts to benefit High Point youth through coaching and fundraising for several different organizations including, High Point YMCA, Camp Cheerio, United Way, Big Brothers/Big Sisters and High Point Central Athletics. Jackie was an active member of First United Methodist Church in High Point where he served on the Administrative Board. He especially loved playing golf at Willow Creek and spending time with all his buddies.

In 1971, he married the former Susan Christine Hedrick who survives of the residence. Also surviving is his daughter, Sara Beth Ebner and husband Gabe of Mt. Pleasant, SC; his son, Ross Hawks and wife Katharine of High Point; two brothers, Mark Hawks of Martinsville, VA and Keith Hawks of Little River, SC; and six grandchildren, Eamon Kelly, Kora Kelly, Griffin Hawks, Mason Hawks, Emory Ebner and Lainey Ebner. Love for his family was the focal point of his life.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 15, at First United Methodist Church in High Point with Rev. Randy Blanton and Rev. Josh Barnes officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the Epworth Room at the church. Jack lived by the motto, "Choose To Be Happy" so please come with bright colors and a smile! In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to YMCA of High Point or YMCA Camp Cheerio, both through www.hpymca.org. Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point is assisting the family.
