Jack L. Martin, 78, of Monmouth, IL passed away on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria.

Jack was born December 23, 1946 in Monmouth the son of Francis “Polly” and Irene N. (Bennett) Martin. He was raised and educated in Monmouth, graduating from Monmouth High School in 1966.

Jack served as a Medic with the United States Army from 1967-1970 Stationed in Alaska and Washington during the Vietnam War. His basic training was held in El Paso, TX at Ft. Bliss and his Medic training was at Ft. Sam Houston, San Antonio, TX.

Jack married Virgina B. Dile on August 26, 1967 at Immaculate Conception Church in Monmouth and she survives.

Jack worked for Western Stoneware as a foreman. He later began working for the City of Monmouth, first as a police officer and later with the street department. When he retired in 2013, he was the Transfer Station Manager. Since his retirement Jack worked as an extra set of eyes assisting his son, Scott, with Scott’s Disposal Service.

He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He enjoyed fishing, photography, taking and developing nature photos.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Martin; his children, Scott Martin of Monmouth and Jonathan Paul (Melinda) Martin of Bettendorf, IA; 4 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; his brother, David Martin of Monmouth; his sisters, Nancy Wooddell of Monmouth, Theresa Martin of Monmouth, Mary Martin Hull of Bedford, TX and Paula (Joey) Howe of Monmouth; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Richard Martin; sisters, Connie Miller and Judy Louck.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 am Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Monmouth. Interment will be at the Alexis Cemetery, Alexis, IL. Visitation will be from 9:30-10:30 Tuesday morning at the Church with a Rosary Service beginning at 10:30 am. Memorials may be given St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital and sent to the funeral home. The family requests that no food be delivered to the family at this time. McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.
