Robert E. Dennison, 87, of Monmouth, IL, passed away on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at OSF Holy Family Medical Center, Monmouth.
Bob was born October 27, 1938 in Monmouth, the son of Orville D. and Dorothy L. (Bear) Dennison. He was raised and educated in Monmouth, graduating from Monmouth High School in 1956.
Bob married Shirley A. Danforth on August 26, 1960, at the Cameron Christian Church, Cameron, IL, and she passed away on March 18, 2023.
He worked at the Pottery in Monmouth and later was a Leadman and worked at repairs Admiral/Maytag, retiring after over 30+ years.
Bob coached youth baseball and basketball with the YMCA, Lions League and Motor League. He not only coached from the bench but was known to do some coaching from the stands. He loved watching and attending the games that his son, Doug, coached at various local schools. He was a Green Bay Packers, LA Dodgers and Illini Basketball fan. Bob played semi-pro basketball for the Monmouth Eagles for several years. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing as many rounds as possible with his friends at Gibson Woods. Both Bob and Shirley loved to take daily drives, either around town, down to the river or just to see the countryside.
Survivors include his sons, Doug (Annette) Dennison and Todd Dennison; 2 grandsons, Dylan Dennison and Dalton Dennison; nephew, David Danforth; nieces, Julie Carlson and Paula Bowling.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m., Thursday, January 29, 2026, at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth. Visitation will be from 1:00-3:00 p.m. prior to the services. A private family interment will take place at Silent Home Cemetery, Cameron, IL. Memorials may be given to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital and sent to the funeral home.
