Jack C. Pardue, age 94, passed away peacefully in the late hours of December 17th, 2024 while at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC. Jack was born in Wilkes County on May 27, 1930 to the late Fred Weims Pardue and Bessie Lee Scott Pardue.
Jack loved his family, traveling the world with his wife, “Dot”, farming and being with friends. He retired from the post office after 30 years of service. Jack was a faithful member of Apple’s Chapel where he served as a deacon (chairman for several years), Men’s Chorus, Sunday School teacher and served on several committees (Missions, Board of Education, Trustees). Jack was an avid investor and was very successful. Jack never met a stranger and was quite a talker, spinning his stories to any that would listen. His hobbies included collecting old cars and farm equipment. Jack will be missed by his family, many friends and 4-legged friends.
Jack also served in the Naval Reserves, spending time in Key West, Fl. And San Juan, PR. He went through submarine training and served on the USS Cochino (SS-345) which later sank after a battery explosion in Norway in 1949. For two years, he and Dot worked for the FBI in Washington, DC as fingerprint technicians and security. He also led tours through the facility. He received letters of commendation from J. Edgar Hoover, and even a congratulatory note upon the birth of their daughter Donna while working there. While his FBI career was a short period of his life, he often reflected on it. While he and Dot both enjoyed their time in Washington, DC, they decided to return to their beloved NC. Though he loved to travel, he always wanted to live near home.
Jack leaves behind his loving wife, Dorothy “Dot” Roberts Pardue of 74 years, and their two children: Darrell Pardue and wife, Susan of Greensboro, NC and Donna Preiss and husband, Kirk of Raleigh, NC: grandchildren: John Preiss (Jena), Amy Preiss Barger (Kyle), William Pardue (Julie), Elizabeth Pardue Gill (Alec) and Harrison Pardue (Mollie); great grandchildren: Brooke Barger, Nobles Preiss, Katie Barger, Jack Preiss, Trevor Gill, Mae Preiss, Charlotte Gill, Adam Pardue, Jake Gill, Wells Gill, Trent Gill, Declan Preiss and Theo Pardue.
Along with his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his brother, Harold Pardue and a sister, Peggy Blackburn.
The Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 23, 2024 at Apple’s Chapel Christian Church with the burial to follow in the church cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 12:30 till 1:45 before the service at Apple’s Chapel.
