The family of Jack Edwin Schechter is heartbroken to share the news of his passing on April 24, 2025 at Integris Hospice House in Oklahoma City, OK at the age of 66. He is now in heaven at peace and pain free ready to torment Granny Joyce and be with his other loved ones letting them know he is there to supervise.
Jack was born on January 22, 1959 in Hugoton, KS to Loren and Wilma (Reed) Schechter. He was a high school wrestler and played football, graduating Hugoton High School in 1977. Jack spent majority of his life driving a semi all over the USA, delivering all kinds of goods. He was employed at Ditch Witch at the time of his passing.
He loved being a Happy Jack to the coolest grandchildren ever. He had nicknames for just about everyone, so if you were lucky enough to have a nickname you were a favorite and lifer in the Schechter family. He was known for his ability to fix vehicles and keep the grandkids entertained with bonfires, cookouts, and the lawn mowers going so they could drive and ride around the neighborhood. He was an avid lawn ornament collector and loved "junkin". He enjoyed snacks, especially popcorn, he would leave a trail of it everywhere he went. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, going to the races, and finding good food.
Happy Jack is survived by his loving children, Jennifer Brownlee (Jeff), Jason Schechter, Dustin Schechter (Brittany) of Perry, OK, Joni Leigh (Levi) of Morrison, OK, and Kai Stewart (Dakota) of Spokane, WA; grandchildren, Aspen Moreau, Darrian, Gracie, Wanitta and Autumn Brownlee, Kyleigh Wooten and Baylee Schechter, Emma and Elend Leigh, and Brody Schechter; great-grand son, Layton Moreau; his beloved fur baby, Sedona; his brothers, Tom and Karen Schechter of Hugoton, KS, Rex and Rene Schechter of Wichita, KS, and Hal and Brenda Schechter of Hugoton, KS; sister-in-law, Jill Schechter; many nieces and nephews; and many great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his former spouse, Joyce Givens; parents, Loren & Wilma Schechter; siblings, Rita Wray, Mike Schechter, Ronnie Schechter; and brother-in-law, Gideon Wray.
The family would like to say a special thank you to Michael Landes (AKA Fruit) for getting him to and from appointments, helping fix things, and always being there when needed. He was blessed with the best neighbors; Jonna Davenport was always up for an adventure taking him on rides and having cookouts with him and Rusty and Kathy Ewy for helping keep up the lawn maintenance, watching out for him and letting us know when something may have been happening. Thank you to our Wee Maroon family for always staying late and working hard so that Jennifer and Joni could be there for their pops. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He had what we like to call a colorful personality and anyone that met him remembered him.
A celebration of his life will be held at 2PM on Wednesday, April 30, 2025 at Trout Funeral Home of Perry with Pastor Ronnie Wilson officiating. We invite you to leave a message of condolence, expression of sympathy or perhaps share a memory of Jack at www.troutperry.com.
