Jack Stabenow Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Schwarz Funeral Home - Park Blvd. Chapel on Dec. 15, 2025.
Jack Stabenow died in Freeport, Illinois, on December 13th, 2025. Jack was born on July 30th, 1931, in Freeport to Howard and Helen Phelps Stabenow. He attended Winslow schools, graduating in 1949. Jack spent 4 years in the Navy, followed by dairy farming near McConnell, Illinois. He worked at Kelly Springfield Tire Company from the time they opened until his retirement in 1994. Jack married Nanci Goldsmith in 1951 at St. Catherine's church in Freeport. They had six children and spent many happy years on the farm, and then in homes in Lena and Freeport. Jack was an avid Packer fan all his life, having the license plate "PKR BKR 1" on his cars for many years, and donning a cheesehead during important games. After retirement, Jack and Nanci enjoyed 24 winters at their vacation home near Palmetto, Florida, where golf, socializing, and relaxing in the sunshine filled their days.

Survivors include his wife, Nanci; sister-in-law, Gretchen Goldsmith; and children, Richard (Coralyn) Stabenow of Trego, Wisconsin; Laurie (Steve Mainville) of Portland, Oregon; Lisa (David) Lloyd of Freeport; Julie (David) Kelly of Crystal Lake, Illinois; Anne (Mark) VanRaalte of Freeport; grandchildren including Tristan Stabenow, Joe Stabenow, Corey Stabenow, Jaime Elliott, Adam Lloyd, Nancye Peters, Alexandra Stabenow, Nick Diddens, Hannah Hargrove, Maxwell Trunck, Chris Peterson, Dylan VanRaalte, and Marley VanRaalte; and 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Mary Stabenow McGlone; and granddaughter, Sarah Diddens.
