Jack Wilkinson Obituary

Jack Russell Wilkinson III

November 28, 1951 - August 13, 2025

Nicholasville, Kentucky - Jack Russell Wilkinson, III, 73, passed away Wednesday, August 13, 2025. Born in Lexington he was the son of the late Jack Russell Wilkinson Jr. and Martha Evans Davis Wilkinson. Jack spent his life around horses, as a thoroughbred farm manager, breeder, owner and trainer. His love for the horse, and all animals, greatly exceeded his desire for fortune and fame. If his horses were happy, so too was he. When he was not working, he enjoyed working, either around his farm or with anyone who needed a hand. That was the thing about Jack: he lived to serve others. To know him was to have a fierce and loyal ally. He both protected and idolized his three brothers. He extracted joy from the things many of us take for granted: a proper sunrise, a clear moonlit sky, the sound of a flowing spring, a freshly mowed field, but nothing made him happier than being there for his family and friends. From baseball fields, to tennis and volleyball courts, soccer fields and swimming pools, he rarely missed an occasion. No ask was ever too big. No assigned task too small. A Graduate of Henry Clay High School and the University of Mississippi, where he played tennis, studied journalism and (casino) economics. He was finally settling into the life of a full time granddad and relished every second with his children and grandchildren. Jack is survived by his children, John Andrew (Molly) Wilkinson, and Catherine Wilkinson Morris; his brothers, Charles Wilkinson, Harvie Wilkinson, and Bruce Wilkinson; the love of his life, Carolyn Wilkinson; his grandchildren, Lilly Wilkinson, Drew Wilkinson, Molly Banks Morris, and Riles Morris; and his constant companion – his dog Buddy Wilkinson. A memorial visitation for Jack will be held from 4-7pm Monday, August 18th, 2025 at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home – Harrodsburg Road. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Jack may be made to Meals on Wheels, 1675 Strader Dr, Lexington, KY 40505; and Hooves of Hope Equestrian Center, 735 Chenault Bridge Rd, Lancaster, KY 40444.
