Jacqulyn "Jacki" Ortmann, a beacon of love and creativity in her community, passed away peacefully on May 5, 2025, at the age of 76. Born on September 16, 1948, in Raymond, Washington, Jacki's life was defined by her infectious laughter, her artistic touch, and her unwavering dedication to her family and friends.
Jacki spent her formative years in Raymond, WA where she was born to the late Ernest P. Jones and Lois Jones-Gurnsey. Her journey led her to find love and companionship with James "Jim" W. Ortmann, whom she married on August 23, 1985, in a heartfelt ceremony in Niles, Michigan. Their life together was filled with joy, shared passions, and the comfort of mutual respect and understanding.
In addition to her beloved husband Jim, Jacki's memory will be cherished by her loving family. She is survived by her children, Tim (Susan) Curry of the Virgin Islands, Brian Ortmann of Port St. Joe, Florida, and Shelley Pease of Easley, South Carolina. She was also a proud grandmother to eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her immense joy and pride. Her brother, Steven (Susan) Jones of Longview, Washington, and Jim's sister, Judy (Jim) Cripe of Niles, along with nephews Rod (Mary) Cripe and Jeff (Lacee) Cripe, will hold her memory dear. Jacki was preceded in death by her daughter, Jennifer Jacobs, whose memory remained a tender part of her heart.
After graduating from high school and attending beauty school, Jacki found her professional calling as a kitchen manager at South Bend Schools, Clay High School, where she touched the lives of countless students and staff with her warmth and dedication. Her commitment to service extended beyond her work as she was a faithful member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Niles, where she cultivated friendships and contributed to the community.
Jacki's artistic talent was unmistakable, and her passion for crafting, painting, and card-making brought beauty into the world. She owned and operated a successful craft shop in Middlebury for many years, where her creations were not just products but pieces of her soul that she shared with others. Her love for art was matched by her adventurous spirit, as she enjoyed the freedom and thrill of riding on a motorcycle with her husband, exploring new horizons together.
Above all, Jacki was a family woman. She poured her heart into every interaction with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, ensuring that each moment was filled with laughter, learning, and love. Her home was a haven of creativity, warmth, and kindness, reflecting the very essence of her being.
Memorial contributions may be made in Jacki's memory to The Salvation Army at 1707 Miller Drive, Niles, Michigan 49120.
A time of visitation will be held on Monday, May 12, 2025 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Niles. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 13, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home with an interment to follow at Silverbrook Cemetery

She had the rare ability to find humor in the everyday and to approach life's challenges with grace and a smile.
