Michael Dennis Heller

Michael Dennis Heller, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on February 4, 2026, in Mishawaka, Indiana. Born on April 9, 1944, in Detroit, Michigan, to Michael and Ida Heller, both of whom preceded him in death, he was a beacon of light in the lives of all who knew him.

Michael's early years in Detroit instilled in him a lifelong passion for cars, a trait that would greatly influence his career path. After his service with the U.S. Air Force, Michael began working with Ford, a career as an engineer that he poured his heart and soul into for nearly four decades. His dedication to his craft was surpassed only by his love for his family.

He leaves behind his beloved wife, Susan Heller, with whom he shared countless cherished moments. His legacy continues through his children: David (Milena) Heller, Angela (Barry) Pondell, and Robert Banazsak, each of whom inherited his strength, kindness, and sense of humor. Michael treasured his role as a grandfather to Logan Heller, Lea Heller, Ben Pondell, Jill Pondell, and Lindsay Banaszak, who filled his life with laughter and joy.

Michael is survived also by his sister, Sandra Pattenaude. His brother, Melvin Heller, preceded him in death.

Beyond his professional achievements, Michael was a true Detroit Lions fan, his loyalty never wavering through the highs and lows. His pastimes included bird feeding and watching, and traveling up north to places like Lake Superior with his wife and best friend of fifty-two years, pleasures that reflected his appreciation for life's simple pleasures.

A visitation will be held for Michael at Brown Funeral Home on Monday, February 9th from 11:00am to 12:00pm, with services, led by Deacon Roger Gregorski, beginning at 12:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Michael's memory may be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Boulevard, Staten Island, NY 10306.

Michael's remarkable journey through life leaves us with profound memories that will continue to inspire and comfort all who were fortunate to cross his path.
