A gathering to honor Jackie's life will be held on Sunday, February 18, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia.
Born on January 3, 1960, in Erath, Louisiana, to the late Milton Joseph Derouen and Mae Suire Derouen, Jackie lived a life full of compassion, creativity, and cherished memories.
Jackie's career was imbued with a strong sense of devotion. She dedicated her early years to staying at home and nurturing her two sons until they were older. Later on, she began a journey of self-improvement and embarked on a rewarding career as a personal trainer at Curves. Her enthusiasm for fitness inspired countless individuals to lead healthier lifestyles. Jackie found solace in learning. She adored delving into self-help and instructional books that expanded her knowledge and understanding of the world around her. Additionally, she selflessly cared for the elderly residents at Garden View Assisted Living, demonstrating her unwavering commitment to others.
A creative spirit always burned within Jackie. She had a passion for arts and crafts which eventually led her to explore the realms of graphical design. Through her craftsmanship, Jackie designed and sold promotional items and crafts on platforms like E-Bay and ETSY – leaving behind beautiful pieces that captured both her talent and her joyful essence.
Jackie's love for animals knew no bounds. Throughout her life, she shared immeasurable love with numerous cats and dogs. But her beloved companions, Tiki and Maya, two dachshunds, held an irreplaceable place in her heart.
With an adventurous spirit at heart, Jackie found great joy in traveling with her family during holidays and vacations. Exploring new places brought happiness to her soul while creating cherished memories that will be treasured forever.
Music held a special place in Jackie's heart; she delighted in the melodies of the Beatles, Elvis and the Rolling Stones that would accompany her throughout the various stages of life. Additionally, horror movies captivated her imagination while fueling her collection of movie memorabilia.
However, above all else, spending quality time with her family and relishing in the simple pleasure of dining out brought Jackie great joy. From laughter-filled gatherings to heartwarming conversations, family time resonated deeply within her soul.
Jackie is survived by two sons, Jude Anthony Romero and Joseph “Joey” Lucas Bennett; longtime companion, Calvin Johnson; siblings, Ronnie Poirrier (Adam), Chuck Derouen (Kathy), Ricky Derouen, and Glen Derouen; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Toni Bourque; and former husband, Joseph “Joe” Bennett, Jr.
Jackie will always be remembered for her unwavering love, kindness, and passion for life. May she rest in peace.
