Jackie Don Goodwin

Jackie Don Goodwin was born February 20, 1949, in Bonham, Texas, the son of Ruben Hershel Goodwin and Lee Frances Fogle. He attended schools in North Fannin, Gober, Dodd City and Savoy. Throughout his lifetime, he had a number of careers in roofing, upholstery, machine shops, and General Cable. However, roller skating was in his blood from an early age. He worked for Loyd Johnson at Bonham Roller Rink during his teenage years and it was there he met the love of his life, Regina Sudderth, who he finally married on October 28, 1978, in Bonham, Texas. Jackie Don went on to own and operate this iconic business. The friendships and kids he helped 'raise' are countless. Following the closing of the roller rink, he embarked on yet another adventure: raising cattle, farming and being a landlord. No matter where a job took him, his heart was always in the Carson Community of Fannin County, Texas and the ultimate prize was to return to his roots.

He answered to a number of names, Jackie Don, Jack, JD, Daddy, and Papa Jack. His thirst for knowledge was great, maybe not academic knowledge, but true 'hands on' knowledge. Whenever problems arose for his wife, kids or grandkids, it was always, call Daddy. Most of the time he could figure it out or send them in the right direction. He tried hard to teach them to do things for themselves so they could become self-sufficient. He loved nature, trees, plants, animals and was always sharing this with his kids and grandkids. Jack had a wealth of wisdom and wanted each of them to learn to appreciate the beauty of life. He also loved to fish and spent his spare time 'wetting a hook' from his pool bank along with his daughters and grandchildren. He enjoyed mornings with his coffee drinking friends at various businesses around town. However, Jackie Don's greatest joy in life was his family and spending time at the farm among his cows, horses, and chickens.

On Sunday, January 25, 2026 at Texoma Medical Center in Denison, TX, the Lord called this much loved and respected man home. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hershel Goodwin and Lee Frances Dodson and bonus dad, Stanley Dodson, his sisters, Deronda Lee Goodwin and Mary Lou Goodwin Reynolds, bonus sister, Rhonda Dodson Lantz, son-in-law, Charlie Whitworth, Jr. and a number of aunts, uncles and cousins.

Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 47 years, Regina Sudderth Goodwin of Bonham, daughters, Doris Whitworth of Savoy, Lea Dawnette Faulkner and husband, Shon of Bonham, Keri Deronda Goodwin of Bonham, and Debra Thomas, 8 grandchildren, Krystal Brannum Gaspar (Airron), Mathew Don Brannum (Jayde), Kaylea Whitworth, Colby Faulkner (Lamisa), Aaron Faulkner (Priscilla), Lanie Johnston, Hestin Johnston, and Chandler Johnston, 12 great grandchildren, bonus siblings, Alan Dodson, Phyllis Dodson Ceglia (Tom), and Terry Dodson Bailey, special uncle and aunt, Richard and Zella Fogle of Tulsa, OK, aunt Lavon Howell of Hot Springs, AR, niece, Casey Reynolds Niroula (Dhiraj), sister-in-law, Shirley Shoemaker (Scotty), former spouse, Diana Keene Neighbors and husband, Frank, numerous cousins, including Skeeter Fogle (Sharon) and Danny Ray Fogle (Sherry), Rick Fogle, Sheryl Fogle Halter (Nick), and Doris Jean Evans Rhodes and his Bonham Roller Rink kids.

Serving as pallbearers will be Krystal Brannum Gaspar, Mathew Brannum, Shon Faulkner, Colby Faulkner, Aaron Faulkner, and Hestin Johnston. Honorary pallbearers will be Garry Hughes, Don "Red" Shelby, and Steve Cerveny.

Services honoring the life of Jackie Don Goodwin will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, Feb. 2, 2026, at Boyd Baptist Church with a visitation at 1:00 PM prior to the service. Rev. Lyn Holly will officiate. Burial will follow in Gum Springs Cemetery with Carl "Skeeter" Fogle.

Life is short, memories are fleeting, treasure each one, never take your loved ones for granted. Thank you, Jackie Don, Jack, JD, Papa Jack for your undying love and devotion to all of us. We'll look for you in the sunrise and sunset, in the meadow of crimson clover, in the vegetable garden, watching the cows, and sitting on the pool bank. I love you forever and always. Regina
