Jackson James Dye

Jackson James Dye passed away on August 8th, 2024, and returned home to the loving arms of his Heavenly Father. He was born on September 23, 2004 in Logan, Utah to Tyson and Mindy Dye. He was the oldest of 7 children and the greatest big brother anyone could ask for - patient, fun, loving, kind. He often took his younger siblings to do fun activities because he liked spending time with them. He is deeply missed by his parents, siblings, extended family, many wonderful friends, and all who knew him. He touched many lives throughout his life and we are grateful for the time we had with him. 

Jackson had many passions. He loved the outdoors and made it a point to jump into any body of water he came across, no matter how cold. He especially loved fishing, skiing, snowmobiling, rock climbing, hiking, camping, and boating with his family. Music was a huge part of his life. Even as a child, he liked listening to classical music and begged to join the school orchestra in elementary school. He started playing the upright bass in junior high and graduated high school with a music scholarship to play the bass in college. He also loved playing the piano and would sit down to play through some of his favorite songs several times a day. In high school, he played on the Bingham High volleyball team and developed a love of playing volleyball whenever he could. He enjoyed almost all activities and was always up for an adventure. He liked working with his hands, tinkering with cars and fixing things around the house. He also loved playing board games and hanging out with his friends. Jackson had some amazing, close-knit friends. His lifelong best friend was his brother Jace. From the moment Jace was born they were inseparable. As toddlers, they were always getting into trouble, like when they painted the house and everything, they could find in the backyard with deck stain. In high school, they found time to go fishing and camping together. Neither could have had a better friend.

 After high school, Jackson was super excited to be able to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. For the first 7 months, he served in Quezon City, Philippines, where he truly loved his time and thrived getting to know the people and the country. He was happy and a good missionary. Later, due to mental health struggles, he came home to get help and continued with a service mission. He then enjoyed working with the special projects department of the church, helping with temples around the United States, and serving as an ordinance worker at the Jordan River Temple. Additionally, he volunteered with the Special Olympics Utah, and loved getting to know the community while competing in different events. 

Jackson seemed to be doing so well and his sudden passing was a shock. There are some things that we’ll need to wait to understand, but for now, we are content with the knowledge that we have of a loving Father in Heaven and our Savior Jesus Christ, who see into the eternities and love perfectly. The highlight of Jackson’s life was serving as a missionary and now he will forever be doing that service. We love you Jackson and look forward to the day when we can hold you in our arms.

 Jackson was preceded in death by his baby sister, Makayla, and Grandpa Billy J Dye. He is survived by his parents Tyson and Mindy Dye, siblings Jace, Mackenzie, Jaden, Mikey, and McKay, his grandparents, Bryan and Linda Niebergall and LaRee Dye, and great-grandpa, John Niebergall, as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

 Jackson wrote in his journal that in 10 years he would like to have a job where he could “be helping to make the world a better place, trying to fix problems we have.” To honor Jackson’s dream we would ask that instead of flowers or funeral donations, please consider donating to the Salt Lake Stars - Special Olympics Utah Foundation https://support.specialolympics.org/a/utah Special Olympics or to the general missionary fund of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

 A viewing will be held Friday, August 16 from 6-8 pm at 9894 S. 2700 West, South Jordan, Utah. The funeral will be at the same location starting at 10:30 am on Saturday, August 17 with a viewing just before starting at 9 am. 

 Interment will be at South Jordan City Cemetery following the service.
