Dr. Jacob B. Baumann, 89, of Orwigsburg, passed away at Providence Place Senior Living on Thursday, Dec. 2, 2021.
Born in Fremont, Ohio, on Sept. 11, 1932, he was the son of the late Albert V. and Cary (Shreffler) Baumann.
He was a graduate of Amherst College and received his Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Michigan in 1957.
Dr. Baumann was a professor of chemistry at the Penn State Schuylkill campus from 1965 to his retirement in 1999. He previously taught at Defiance College in Defiance, Ohio.
He was a member of St. John's Church, Orwigsburg.
Jake enjoyed oil painting and was an avid traveler in retirement, visiting his ancestry home in Switzerland and many other countries in Europe and Great Britain.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret (Watkins) Baumann and second wife, Reine (Eby) Baumann.
Jake is survived by two sons, John and his wife, Hazel, of Richmond, Va., and William and his partner, Joseph, of Shady Dale, Ga.; a daughter, Susan (Baumann) Corinchock and her husband, Drew, of Schuylkill Haven; and a stepdaughter, Susan Ulsh and her husband, Dean, of Auburn. Jake has six grandchildren, Kyle, David, Olivia, Kate, Kerry and Abby.
A Celebration of Life funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7, at Ebling-Stabingas Funeral Home, Cressona, with the Rev. Jeffrey G. Johnson officiating. A visitation for family and friends will be held prior from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Cressona Cemetery, Cressona. The family would like memorial donations in Dr. Baumann's name be sent to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675-8516. Dr. Baumann rest peace. Dr. Bauman was my Chemistry Instructor at Schuylkill Campus back in 1965-66 at the Pottsville Campus.

Chemistry teacher at PSU Schuylkill during my times there: 1980 - 1982. He was a great teacher. I learned a great deal about inorganic and organic chemistry and enjoyed his class. It was good to get to know him.
