Obituary published on Legacy.com by Jones Funeral Chapel Inc on Jun. 28, 2025.
Jacob Mackenzie Courtenay, known affectionately as Jake to his friends and family, passed away on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, in Butler County, Kentucky. Born on November 12, 1997, in Redmond, Oregon, Jake's vibrant spirit and boundless energy were evident from the very beginning. Jake's loving spirit will be dearly missed by all whose lives he touched.
Jake was a proud graduate of Butler County High School's Class of 2016, where he was a dedicated member of the Butler County Bears football team throughout his four years. His leadership skills shone brightly, and he was admired by his teammates and coaches alike. After high school, Jake continued his education at San Jacinto in Houston, Texas. There, he found his calling on the high seas and became a respected captain in the Maritime Industry. His career took him from the icy waters of the Gulf of Alaska to the warm waves of the Gulf of America, and most recently, to the challenging North Atlantic.
Jake's love for the outdoors was as vast as the oceans he sailed. He found solace in fishing and deer hunting, the thrill of riding dirt bikes, and the simple joy of working with a chainsaw. Jake's love for children, and animals was pure and unwavering and his culinary skills were a delight to those who were lucky enough to experience them.
He is survived by a loving family who will miss him dearly: his mother, Nissa K. Courtenay of Columbia, KY; his father, Brian J. Courtenay of Lewisburg, KY; his grandmother, Carole Courtenay of Maine; his grandfather, Ron Garolfalo (Rosann) of New Jersey; his grandmother, Helen Morgan of Montana; his aunts, Paula Cummings (Kevin) of New Jersey, Terry Franz of North Carolina, and Ginny Korstange of North Carolina; his uncles, Mike Courtenay of Maine, Mark Courtenay of Arizona, Richard Courtenay of Maine, Nate Morgan (Mandee) of Oregon, and Colin Morgan (Lynnea) of Montana; and his cousins, Nate Courtenay, James Courtenay of Maine, Cedar Morgan of Kentucky, Kealin Morgan of Oregon, Finnian Morgan of Oregon, Michael Morgan of Montana, Kara Cummings (Rick), Kyle Cummings (April), and Kelly Galtieri (Andrew) all of New Jersey. Also feeling the void left by Jake's passing, are all of his friends, who will always be family.
