Obituary of Jacob Dominic Glasser
GLASSER, Jacob Dominic
Jacob (Jack) passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 11, 2023, at the age of 88 years.
Jacob was the last child born to Dominic and Mary Glasser in Regina, Saskatchewan. He was predeceased by his other siblings: Lucas, Kay, Pauline, Red, Sully, Rose, Ed, and Clem.
Jack was predeceased by his beloved spouse of 50 years, Carol, in 2009. He is survived by their children Neil, Ian (Dawn), and Sharon (Ken) Meredith, and grandchildren Leah, Addison, and Connor. He is also survived by sisters-in-law Clo, Louise, Barb, and Valerie, brothers-in-law Ed and Barry, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Jack's creativity was evident throughout his life. He spent many years as a graphic designer for the Government of Saskatchewan. In his spare time, you could find Jack in his workshop designing stained glass, caricatures, custom camping equipment, parade floats or other innovations.
Jack was a very creative artist. Many folks are lucky to enjoy one (or more) of his stunning creations in their home.
Jack's memory will continue through the Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal. He designed this prestigious medal which has been awarded since 1995.
Jack's second home was the outdoors. In particular, Besnard Lake in northern Saskatchewan. His outdoor fishing camp was his pride and joy. He would spend countless hours designing equipment and contraptions to enhance the camping experience. He passed this love onto his family, as well as the many others who camped and fished with him at Site #24.
Jack's creative side spilled over into the kitchen, as he loved to cook. Soups, sandwiches, noodles, and Asian food were his specialties. Everything was made from scratch and always had a fantastic flavour.
When Jack was not designing and creating you could find him reading. He was a voracious reader. He often had to build more bookshelves to house his growing personal library.
Jack loved classical music and opera. Every Saturday afternoon you would find him in his workshop listening to the opera on CBC radio as he worked on his projects.
When the weather turned cold, and the fishing camp was closed for the season, Jack and Carol enjoyed visiting and goofing around with the relatives from the west coast. Jack recalled many fond memories from these trips.
Jack was not the most athletic individual; however, many were humbled when they played pool with him. He was quite a pool shark. Billiards, 8-ball, 9-ball, and snooker were his specialty on, of course, a "12-foot" table. It gave Jack great joy to beat his opponents, which he did often.
Although Jack's health deteriorated over the last few years, his sense of humour and creativity continued until his last days.
A special thanks to the staff at Harbour Landing Village who welcomed and cared for Jacob during the last few months. He was also fortunate to receive exceptional care at the Wascana Rehabilitation Centre. The family wishes to thank the ICU at the Regina General Hospital for their compassionate care during our dad's last days.
Upon Jack's request, there will be no immediate Memorial Service.
