Morton Glasser, MD, 88, of Newport, RI passed away on April 21, 2025 in Providence.
Dr. Glasser was born in Brooklyn, NY to Philip and Jenny Glasser on April 29, 1936. He was a proud graduate of DeWitt Clinton High School in the Bronx, City College of New York, and Downstate Medical School (graduated 1961). Dr. Glasser was a devoted family doctor with a private practice in Willimantic, CT. He later served as Chief Medical Officer of Generations Family Health Center in Willimantic. This federally qualified community health center serves the medically underserved in eastern Connecticut. Dr. Glasser also served as a physician for the US Public Health Service's Indian Health Service, serving the Choctaw Nation in Talihina, OK for two years in 1962-1964.
Dr. Glasser received the 2003 Award for the Physician of the Year from Windham Community Memorial Hospital and the 2014 Award of Excellence from The Connecticut Academy of Family Physicians. He also was a founder of the recovery program Perception Programs in Willimantic, which has helped people in their recovery from drug and alcohol addictions.
Dr. Glasser was an avid fencer, birdwatcher, pool player, horseback rider, painter, tennis player, chess player, and music and dance lover. In his retirement he loved taking walks around Newport, taking shuttle boat rides around Newport harbor, and playing chess and pool.
Dr. Glasser is survived by his wife Irene (Newport); Jason and his wife Sophie and their children Charlotte and Joseph (Paris, France); Raphael and his wife Cindy (Las Vegas, NV); Jonathan and his wife Kathy and their children Azalea and Selma (Williamsburg, VA); and Nathaniel and his wife Linn and their children Leon, Elliot, and Elise (Stockholm, Sweden). Among his other survivors are his precious nieces Francine Glasser Siegel and Sharon Pacheco-Adamec, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Michael and Marsha Biederman and their children Seth and Dara, and cousin Alan Lintz.
Dr. Glasser was predeceased by his parents Jenny and Philip Glasser, his brothers Louis and Irving, and his sisters Shirley and Helen.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 25, 2025 at the Hoffman Jewish Memorial Chapel, 11 Fowler Avenue, Newport at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Beth Olam Cemetery, 181 Wyatt Road, Middletown. Shiva will be on Friday, April 25 from 5-7 pm at the Glasser home, 11 Bull Street, Newport.
