Funeral Mass for Jacob Waleri Sr., 90, of Dickinson will be 12:00 pm Friday, December 20, 2024 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Father Brandon Wolf celebrating. Burial will take place at St. Thomas Cemetery in Gladstone.
Visitation for Jacob will be 5:00 – 7:00 pm Thursday, December 19, 2024 at Stevenson Funeral Home with a Rosary and Vigil service starting at 6:00 pm.
Jacob passed away on Friday, December 13, 2024 at Country House in Dickinson.
Jacob was born September 20, 1934 in Hebron, the son of John and Anna (Willer) Waleri. As a young boy he attended grade school in Gladstone and Lefor. Jacob enlisted in the US Army on January 12, 1954 from Rapid City, South Dakota. He served 23 years, promoting to the rank of Sergeant First Class (E-7) and was honorably discharged on March 1, 1977 from Oakland, CA. While in the service, he served as a Dining Facility Manager over the course of his military career. He was stationed overseas and around the world, serving in Japan, Korea, France, Germany and several US posts. On December 6, 1956, Jacob married Sachiko Takemoto in Kobe, Japan. Together they celebrated 50 years of marriage and raised two children, Linda and Jacob Jr. In 1979, Jacob attended Columbia College and received his Degree in Accounting and Traffic Management. Following his military retirement in 1977, he went to work at Providence Hospital for the next 17 years, retiring in 1994. He also managed the family rental home from 1981-2006. Jacob married Evelyn Krauter Elberg on July 15, 2009 at Fort Jackson Chapel, South Carolina and then returned to Dickinson. He enjoyed wood crafts, fishing, traveling and coaching little league baseball at Fort Jackson, SC.
Jacob is survived by his wife, Evelyn of Dickinson; son, Jacob Jr. (Sandy) of Greensboro, NC; grandson, Charles J. (Jaime) Disharoon of Columbia, SC; great-grandchildren, Cooper, Benjamin, Penelope, and Sawyer; granddaughter, Elizabeth (Christian) Greene of Spartanburg, SC; and 11 nieces and 9 nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Anna Waleri; wife, Sachiko (2006); daughter, Linda Haas; and sisters, Elizabeth Waleri, Magdalena Kolva, Margaret Waleri, Ethelyn Martin, and Evelyn Rasmussen.
