Jacqueita Doherty Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Old Bridge Funeral Home - Old Bridge on Dec. 31, 2025.
Jacqueita "Jay" Doherty, age 95, passed away unexpectedly yet peacefully in her home on December 27, 2025, after a lovely Christmas with family. She had lived independently in Monroe, New Jersey since 2009. She was born to the late Edward Davis and Dorothy (O'Neil) Davis on August 7, 1930, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Jay was preceded in death by her husbands, Frank E. Mitchell and Arthur Doherty; her son, Frank Mitchell; her daughter, Suzanne Carbone; and her grandson, Nicholas Mitchell. She was also preceded in death by her siblings Dove, Edward, Witon, Alfred, and George.
She is survived by her sisters, Della and Joanne; her sons, Rusty Mitchell of Virginia, Ron Mitchell and his wife Melinda of Virginia, and Scott Mitchell and his wife Barbara of New Jersey. She is also survived by her stepchildren, Pat Zdan, Peggy Doherty, and Maureen Doherty, all of New Jersey. Jay leaves behind a large and loving family, including 16 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter, of whom she was immensely proud.
The eldest of eight children, Jay was the heart of her family. She enjoyed many hobbies, including playing bingo, doing ceramics, crocheting, playing mahjong, and working on puzzles. She also loved to garden and birdwatch on her patio. One of her greatest joys was her weekly breakfasts with family and friends at Sal's, the local deli. She loved spending time with her family and never missed an opportunity to brag about them and their accomplishments to anyone who would listen.
Jay also loved attending clubhouse dances with her friends and living life to the fullest. She was known for her fun-loving spirit, warm heart, and constant smile. To many, she was affectionately known as "Grandma Jay," a title she wore with genuine love and pride.
Jay's joy, kindness, and devotion to her family will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved her. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Jacqueita L. Doherty, please visit our floral store.

What a beautiful woman, inside and out. She was one of the kindest, smartest, funniest women ever. I'll miss "Jaye" and will remember her for a long time to come.
