Jacqueline Moyse Borchgrevink, daughter of Earl and May (Werner) Moyse, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed into the arms of God on September 26, 2025, at the remarkable age of 102.
A New Orleans native, Jackie was part of the Greatest Generation, living through the Great Depression and World War II. Jackie and two of her sisters were raised by the Daughters of Charity at St. Elizabeth’s orphanage for several years—years that she describes as being the happiest of her childhood.
In 1942, Jackie married the love of her life, Harold Borchgrevink. Together they raised their four children, Annamarie (Thomas DiPlacido), Karen (Michael Gibbs), Harold (Sandy Singer), and Jack (Sue Suever) in a home filled with God, love, laughter and music. Jackie had nine grandchildren: Tom DiPlacido Jr., Jackie Robison, Michelle Boue-Gibbs, Jennifer Gibbs-Schline, Bonnie Gibbs Vengrow, Alison Poort, David Borchgrevink, Geoffrey, Kevin and Connor Borchgrevink, and Melissa Borchgrevink Banaczyk. She also was blessed with great-grandchildren: Samantha, Max and Joe Robison; Ariel, Matthew, Thomas DiPlacido III; Joshua Vengrow; Camille, Sophie and Adele Poort; Greyson and Kennedy Borchgrevink; Emma, Lucy, Amelia and Jack Borchgrevink; Lilliana Banaczyk; and one great-great grandchild, Isla Murray.
Jackie had an insatiable desire to learn. In the course of her long and beautiful life, she mastered many crafts, among them: sewing, crochet, furniture decoration, speed reading and flower arranging. An accomplished organist, she composed many songs—religious and contemporary. Jackie also enjoyed dancing and “cut many a rug” with Harold. Jackie had a passion for cooking and loved nothing better than having people over for a gourmet meal.
During her later years, Jackie moved from Slidell to Lacombe. She was active in St. John of the Cross Catholic Church where she was recognized for her service with the parish JC Award. Jackie was known for her handmade, lace-trimmed handkerchiefs which she gave to many friends and family. Up until her last days, Jackie attended daily Mass. She was especially fond of her pastor, Fr. Tuan Pham, whom she gifted with little Hershey bars after each Mass.
The family extends thanks to Rev. Tuan Phan, Rev. Dan Dashner and Deacon Ricky Suprean for their spiritual comfort, the fabulous family of parishioners at St. John of the Cross, Destony at Egan Hospice, caregivers Joyce Jones and Trellis Hubbard, and all who loved, prayed and cared for Jackie.
Jackie’s memorial services will be held at St. John of the Cross Church, 61030 Briar Lake Drive, Lacombe, LA, on Friday, October 3, 2025, from 9:30 a.m. with Mass at 11 a.m., with a reception in the community center following the service. Interment will be at the Garden of Memories in Slidell. In lieu of flowers, Masses or donations to St. John of the Cross Friends of St. Anthony are requested.
Memories and condolences can be left on the obituary at the funeral home website.
