Jacqueline Kay Downs, a cherished soul and beloved member of her family, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2025, at her home in Shepherdsville, Kentucky, surrounded by her loving husband, Wayne. Born on November 27, 1948, Louisville, Kentucky, Jacqueline embraced life with a spirit that radiated kindness and respect, values instilled in her through her Catholic upbringing.
Jackie was known for her exceptional resourcefulness and wealth of knowledge, working for Independent Container and also showcasing her creativity working in a floral department. Her extensive vocabulary and passion for word puzzles painted a picture of a woman who was both intelligent and deeply thoughtful. Those who knew her admired her ability to brighten any room with her presence, whether through her work or her artistic flair in floral design.
Music was an integral part of Jackie life, a bond she shared with her sister, Donna Lee, as they sang together in perfect harmony during their childhood. In 1976, she joyously received a 12-string guitar from her husband, Wayne, igniting her passion for music further. Jacqueline's talent on the guitar, banjo, and various other instruments, coupled with her angelic voice, made performances a true delight, even as her shy nature gave way to shine when she took the stage.
A genuine and honest individual, Jackie lived by the golden rule. She embraced the philosophy of treating others with kindness and upheld her moral standards throughout her life. Outside of her professional and musical endeavors, she relished hobbies such as crafts and decorating and held a special love for animals, particularly the myriads of birds that frequented her yard. With dozens of hummingbirds and goldfinches gracing her home, she joyfully anticipated their yearly return, often enchanted by their vibrant presence.
Jackie legacy continues through her family. She is survived by her devoted husband, Wayne Downs; her son, Kevin Lee Mahana; her daughter, Shannon Adams and her husband James; her son, Rusty Bowler; grandchildren, Cody Adams and Dylan Mahana; and her cherished nieces and nephews—Wayne, Kelly, Tony, and Lee King—who she loved as her own children. Jackie was preceded in death by her parents, Wilber and Daisy Compton; her daughter, Shellie Mahana; her son, Daniel Lee Mahana; her sister, Donna Lee Rassmussen; and her niece, Marguita King.
Jacqueline Kay Downs will be remembered not only for her incredible talents and devotion to family but also for the kindness she extended to those around her. The warmth of her spirit will forever linger in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know her.
