Jacqueline Ann Hughes (DeMare)
Sunrise: March 11th, 1935 – Sunset: October 8th, 2025
On October 8th, 2025, Jacqueline Ann Hughes (DeMare), lovingly known as Noni, was gently carried into the eternal light of God.
Born on March 11th, 1935, in Detroit to Clarence "Larry" and Rose (Fabinski) DeMare, Jacqueline lived a long and full life marked by resilience, compassion, and a deep devotion to her family.
Early in her career, Jacqi worked as a cartographer at Hearn Brothers Map Company in downtown Detroit. The work required a steady hand, great patience, and keen attention to detail. These were qualities she carried throughout her life.
She was the proud mother of two sons, Scott and Jacob Appenzeller, from her first marriage to the late Jacob Appenzeller Jr. Later, she found enduring love and companionship with her late husband Elton Lee Hughes, and together they moved and made their home in
Port Orange, Florida.
There Jacqi worked for many years at the Pennysaver as a production artist, where she meticulously placed advertisements with creativity and precision. Many may remember the cheerful mascot "Mr. Pennysaver," but few knew that it was Jacqi herself inside the costume. She took great joy in bringing smiles to others through that role, a reflection of her playful spirit and generous heart.
Family was the heart of Noni's life. She cherished visiting loved ones, especially in California, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. She found joy in life's simple blessings, such as piecing together puzzles with care, listening to classical music, tending to her flower gardens, using her iPad and enjoying cuddles with her dog Sammy.
Jacqi leaves behind a legacy of love through her two sons, Scott and Jacob Appenzeller; her sisters, Gloria Bormann and Darlene (James) Feustel; five cherished grandchildren, Angela (Bill) Johnston, Jacqueline (Joshua) Wellington, Joshua Appenzeller, Amanda (Jacob) Voss, and Justin Appenzeller; and four great-grandchildren who brought her endless pride, Corbin Voss, Emma Appenzeller, Autumn Wellington, and Raven Appenzeller. Jacqi is also survived by her nephews Kevin McFeaters, Brent (Joan) McFeaters, and Mark (Huaying) McFeaters, sons of her sister Gloria; and by nephews Michael and Matthew (Stefanie) Feustel, sons of sister Darlene (James) Feustel. She was the proud great aunt of Matthew and Stefanie's daughters, Lily and Lydia. She leaves behind many extended family and friends who were all blessed by her love.
She entered her heavenly home, where she was joyfully reunited with her beloved husband, Elton Lee Hughes; her treasured grandparents, Bruno and Annette (Panza) DeMare; her loving parents, Clarence and Rose DeMare; her caring aunt and uncle, Helen and Ralph Moyer; and her dear brother-in-law, Herbert "Herb" Bormann.
In keeping with her wishes and with peace in our hearts, cremation has been entrusted to the compassionate care of Lohman Funeral Home Port Orange.
We look forward to gathering with loved ones for a celebration of her life at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jacqi's memory to your local animal shelter.
