With great sadness we announce the passing of Jacqueline Rose Mackin (nee Walsh) of Monee, Illinois. She died at the age of 81 on June 10, 2023. Jacqueline passed away surrounded by her loved ones after a long battle with cancer. The youngest of five children, Jacqueline was born June 25, 1941, to parents Lottie and William Walsh in Chicago, Illinois.
Stories of her childhood are that of a spirited girl who loved spending time with her older sisters going to movies, riding the streetcar to the city, summers in Michigan and reading, always reading. Being the much younger sister, her sisters often teased her. However, as the story goes, she always beat them at a game of hide and seek; even if that meant hanging out the window to hide!
She attended Gage Park High School, met John Mackin and married in 1966. Soon after they settled in Oak Lawn to raise their family. Jacqueline worked and was a homemaker most of her life, taking loving care of her family. She was a strong, devoted, and supportive mother. Always encouraging in her quiet way. She was an incredible cook, creating meals that were both delicious and healthy for her family every day. Nutrition was important to her and it became a central part of how she cared for herself during her fight with cancer for over a decade. Her doctors told her she was uncommon, living with her cancer longer than most. Eventually she became weary of her fight and said no more.
Jacqueline is preceded in death by her husband, John Mackin, parents, Lottie and William Walsh, and siblings, Grace Ramiszewski (Chester), William Walsh, Charlotte Walsh and Irene Stanton (Russell).
Jacqueline is survived by her loving family, children, Jeannine Mathews, Charles (Lisa) Mackin, Jennifer (William) Maniatis, Paul (Jessica) Mackin, eight grandchildren Kevin Mathews, Madison Mathews, Jacqlyn Mathews, Kiera Mackin, Charles Jonathon (CJ) Mackin, Emma Mackin, Mia Maniatis, Peter Maniatis, and sister-in-law Rose Walsh.
Jacqueline was a kind, humble, and faithful woman. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She will be missed every day by her family. Her spirit lives on within all that loved her. Rest in eternal peace.
Services for Jacqueline will begin on Friday, June 16, 2023 at Kurtz Memorial Chapel, 65 Old Frankfort Way, in Frankfort with a visitation from 3pm-8pm.
