Jacqueline (Jackie) Lillian Martins age 95 of Portsmouth, RI, passed away after a brief illness on December 11, 2025.
She was born August 12,1930 in Mt. Vernon, New York to the John and Marguerite Caldwell, and was the devoted and loving wife to the late Alberto (Albert) Martins. She was predeceased by her sister Candice Purvis, niece Victoria Purvis, and stepdaughters Tracy Maddox-Brown and Yvonne Martins.
Jackie moved to Newport, RI during her childhood. She worked at the Newport Telephone Company and Salve Regina University. She retired from Newport Hospital's billing department in 1997.
In her retirement years she continued to serve by volunteering at the Newport Hospital, and by assisting individuals of all ages who were unable to care for themselves. Her true passions were playing bingo, reading mystery novels, fishing and gardening. She also enjoyed socializing with family, friends, and strangers.
She was an avid traveler to the Caribbean islands, Hawaii, and Las Vegas. She vacationed in Aruba with her husband every summer for 30 consecutive years and they became honorary citizens.
Jackie is survived by her son, Timothy Ribeiro of Portsmouth, RI, and his girlfriend, Tracy Correll of Wakefield, RI. She is also survived by her nephew Christian Purvis, stepchildren Albert (Marty) Martins, Jeffrey Martins, Donna Richardson, and Lisa Maddox. She also leaves behind her best friend and travel companion, Marlo Lawrence, who took care of her on many trips in her later years, and who she thought of as a daughter.
A celebration of life will be held at a future date.
