William Henry Martins, 83, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Thursday, November 27, 2025. He was born on April 23, 1942, in Oak Park, Illinois, to the late Roy Martins and Agnes Cramer. Bill graduated from Middletown High School in 1960 and attended Miami University of Ohio. He went on to work for Armco/AK Steel for 34 years, retiring in 2001.

Bill lived in Naperville, Illinois, for 22 years before retiring to Hamilton, Indiana, in 2001. In 2020, he and his wife, Linda, moved to Hortonville, Wisconsin. He proudly served 6 years in the National Guard Division of the U.S. Army and spent 13 years with the LeSourdsville Volunteer Fire Department, including 7 years as Fire Chief.

Service to others was a defining part of Bill's life. He was a member of the Lions Club in Ohio and volunteered in numerous capacities in Hamilton, Indiana, including time on the Hamilton Park Board. He was a devoted volunteer at Camp Chief Little Turtle with the Anthony Wayne Boy Scouts Council in Pleasant Lake, Indiana, where he spent many years as a member of the Over-The-Hill Gang (Retired Volunteers). He was always happy to lend a hand wherever needed. Bill loved golfing, boating, and spending time at the lake with family and friends.

Bill is survived by his loving wife, Linda (Hayes) Martins of 60 years; his sons, Robert (Elissa) Martins and John (Patty) Martins; his brother, Wesley Martins of Duluth, Minnesota; his sister, Betty Bourcy (Lyle) of Ontario, Oregon; and his sister-in-law, Jeanie Hayes of Middletown, Ohio; his brother-in-laws, Bruce Hedge of Big Lake, Minnesota and Tom Thurman of Charleston, South Carolina. He is further survived by four grandchildren, Joseph (Alli) Martins, William E. (Olivia) Martins, Marlena (Ethan) Kieffner, and Robert Jr. (Patty) Martins; eight great-grandchildren and numerous other friends and relatives. He was preceded in death by his sister, Janet Martins, and his sister-in-law, Ellen Thurman.

The Memorial Service for William will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 13, 2025 at Borchardt & Moder Funeral Home in Hortonville, Wisconsin with Fr. Phil Schoofs officiating. The visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.

With great sadness I would like to share the following comments about Bill Martins. He was a very special person and much appreciated employee of Armco Steel. I got to know him went he was assigned as office manager of the Chicago district office where I was the district manager. He was soon recognized as an outstanding employee because of the way he did his job. As a result he was promoted to field sales where he excelled for many years in various assignments for several divisions of the company. His real skill was helping others, his customers, his fellow employees and especially his friends. It was my good fortune to become a friend in addition to a fellow employee. He and Linda are the kind of friends everyone would love to have. Bill just helped all of his friends and was loved and appreciated by all. Seldom could anyone have friends like Bill and Linda. I loved them both and will miss Bill Tremendously. Pete Smith
