Poland- Charles C. Rumberg, of North Lima Road, Poland, died on March 11, 2026 from a long battle with cancer.
Mr. Rumberg was born in Poland on December 24, 1964, the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Carl Rumberg, Jr.
He was a 1983 graduate of Poland Seminary High School and went on to graduate from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio with a degree in architecture and interior design. Upon graduation he moved to New York City where he was employed with Schaefer Cassety, Inc., an architectural design firm in Manhattan. While there, he was project manager for the new Stuyvesant High School constructed in Battery Park City near the former World Trade Centers. While in NYC, Charles met the love of his life, Laura J. Buchsieb of Cambridge, Ohio and they married September 22, 1990. In 1990, Charles and Laura moved back to the area where he accepted a position with The Mahoning Paint Corporation, a family-owned manufacturing business, first as quality assurance manager, then VP of operations and finally president in 1998. A member of the Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Rumberg was also instrumental in achieving the international standard of quality for his business, ISO 9001. Mr. Rumberg sold the company to IVC Industrial Coatings in 2009 and became a sales representative for them, retiring in 2016.
Active in the community, Charles had been a member of the Poland Rotary, a founding member of the Poland Preservation Society, serving as Treasurer. He was a board member of the Stambaugh Pillars and spearheaded the restoration of the fountain garden. Charles served as chairman of the Poland Village Architectural Review Board, serving three terms and was also a village councilman where he was instrumental for the village hall interior renovation, composing historic preservation legislation and preparing a Y2K emergency plan. In 1996, Charles gave the commencement address at the PSHS graduation. Mr. Rumberg was also co-chairman of the fundraising campaign for the new Poland Library and served as a trustee and Vice President of the Poland Schools Foundation for two terms. As president of the Poland Forest Foundation for many years, he was instrumental in raising funds for the Mauthe Footbridge Renovation, new signage and other improvements. Charles also served two terms as a trustee for the Mahoning Valley Historical Society and was instrumental in securing the former Ross Radio Building for the Tyler Center expansion. Charles was part of the restoration of the historic Hopewell Theater in Youngstown. In honor of his parents, Charles funded the Rumberg Boathouse on Lake Mvima at Camp Fitch and funded the renovation of the Great Hall at St. John's Church in memory of his mother. He was also a contributor to the YSU Foundation creating a scholarship in memory of his father. Charles was on the Board of Directors for CASTLO. He was a member of the Duquesne Hunting and Fishing Club in Britt, Ontario, Canada, a member of the Pine Lake Trout Club in Chagrin Falls, Ohio, the Youngstown Club and the Youngstown Country Club.
Mr. Rumberg was a lifelong member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Youngstown where he served two terms on Vestry, was a lay reader, usher, chalice bearer, choir member, and member of the finance and properties committees. He received the Vestry Silver Cross for his service to the church in 2018.
The most treasured aspect of his life was his children. He leaves three daughters, Emma W. Rumberg of NYC, Anna Grace (Will) Reedy of Salt Lake City, and Lucia R. Perry of NYC; and his son, George C. Rumberg III, of Pittsburgh. He also leaves a sister, Susan Flasco of Columbiana, as well as his niece Constance Van Scoter. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Jennifer Rumberg Van Scoter, and his former wife Laura Stephens.
A memorial celebration of life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 28, 2026 at St. John Episcopal Church on Wick Avenue.
The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff at both the Blood & Cancer Center in Canfield and Hospice of the Valley for their compassionate care of Charles in his time of need.
