Whitney & Murphy Funeral HomeJacqueline Edith (Graves) Murphy, a devoted teacher, cherished mother and grandmother, and loyal friend to many passed away peacefully at the age of 95.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, she graduated from Franklin K Lane High School. She then spent the majority of her adult life in Roosevelt, New York, building deep roots in the community she loved. Just two years ago she moved to Phoenix, AZ, to be closer to her family – a decision that reflected what mattered most to her: staying connected to the people she loved.
For many years Jackie dedicated herself to teaching, a profession she embraced with patience, warmth, and unwavering commitment. She received her master’s in education from State University of New York Old Wesbury and taught pre-kindergarten for many years. Her expertise, her smile and her enduring positive attitude made an indelible impact on many young children over the years.
She was exceptionally social and never let distance stand in the way of connection. Her phone was rarely far from reach, and she faithfully kept in touch with friends and family through regular calls filled with stories, laughter, and genuine interest in the details of their lives. Conversations with her were thoughtful and lively; she had a gift for making everyone feel remembered and valued.
Her faith was an important part of her life. In Brooklyn, she was a longtime member of St. Phillips, where she found spiritual community and lasting friendships. After moving to Nassau County, she became an active member of the Church of the Transfiguration in Freeport, continuing her devotion and fellowship there. Her church communities were a source of strength, comfort, and connection throughout her life.
In Roosevelt in Nassau County, she was an active and enthusiastic member of her senior group, forming lasting friendships and participating fully in gatherings and activities. Her calendar was often full – a testament to the wide circle of friends she maintained throughout her life.
Above all, she treasured her family. She is survived by her son, Brian Murphy, and his wife Pamela, of Phoenix, grandson Matthew Murphy of Phoenix, and sister Lorraine Stephens of Brooklyn as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Allen Murphy, and her parents John and Lorraine Graves.
A service celebrating her life will be held on Thursday, February 26th at 11am AZ time at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home at 4800 East Indian School Rd in Phoenix. Live streaming will be available for loved ones unable to attend in person.
Her life was a reminder that relationships are life’s greatest treasure. Through decades of teaching, countless phone calls, and steadfast friendship, she built a community wherever she lived. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
