Jacqueline Anna (Kanyuck) Polchies age 77, of Worcester, passed away peacefully on March 1st, at the Genesis Nursing Home in Berlin.
She was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut on June 12, 1947, the daughter of John and Anna (Benia) Kanyuck. Her mother died when Jackie was 6 days old. Her father was remarried to Anna Hliboky.
She graduated from Central High School and then went on to attend Danbury State Teacher's College (now Wescon) for Music
Education.
She married Cyril George Polchies in 1970 and in 1981 they moved from Bridgeport to Worcester, VT. Jackie worked for the Vermont Dept of Labor for 24+ years and retired in 2006.
She was a member of the Worcester United Methodist Church where she was the Organist, Pianist and Treasurer for many years. She was a member of the United Methodist Women; North Branch Grange #483; Washington County Stamp Club; and the Holy Trinity Slovak Lutheran Church in Bridgeport, CT. Jackie was a strong woman of Faith, with a gift of musical talent, of which she could coax some great notes out of the Church Organ. She loved the outdoors and gardening was her passion, both flowers and vegetables. She also enjoyed sitting outside and watching the birds, butterflies, dragonflies and hummingbirds just go flitting across her flowers. All of her lawns had to be mowed just so, and all of the weeds kept being pulled! She inherited her love of collecting postcards and stamps from her father, of which she had volumes of each.
She was predeceased by her parents John and Anna Benia Kanyuck, also Anna Kliboky Kanyuck, as well as her husband Cyril Polchies.
She is survived by her brother Kenneth Kanyuck, Sr, of Monroe, Connecticut; brother-in-law. She is survived by 5 step-children: Bradley (Juanita), Abigail, Susan, Brock (Darlene), and Karen; nephews David Kanyuck in Hawaii, Bamboo and Bruce Polchies of Vancouver, British Columbia; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great nephews, along with many friends whom she cherished.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Worcester United Methodist Church on Friday, May 16th, beginning with a Visitation Hour at 10 am, Service at 11 am, followed by Burial at the Worcester Cemetery, returning to the Church for a Luncheon after.
