Jacquelyn was born to R.A. and Madelyn (Phillips) Dotson on July 12, 1939. Jacquelyn grew up in Ames, Iowa, and graduated from Ames High School. During her childhood, Jacquelyn pursued a wide variety of interests, her fondest being Arabian horses, which her family raised. Following high school, Jacquelyn attended Christian College in Columbia, Missouri. At the time of Jacquelyn's attendance, Christian College was a two-year college exclusively for women. Following her graduation from Christian College, Jacquelyn continued her post-secondary education at Parsons College in Fairfield, Iowa. Jacquelyn earned her Bachelor's Degree and a Teaching Certificate. Following graduation, Jacquelyn taught grade school in Benson, Arizona.
On June 27, 1964, Jacquelyn was united in marriage with Stephen M. McCarthy at St. Thomas Aquanis Catholic Church, Ames, Iowa. Jacquelyn and Stephen made their home in Coralville, Iowa. Stephen taught history at Iowa City High School and Jacquelyn taught grade school at Kalona, Iowa. Jacquelyn loved teaching young children and relished the Amish culture of the Kalona area. Jacquelyn did so until a non-life threatening health challenge required Stephen's retirement from teaching following which Jacquelyn and Stephen moved to Stephen's family home in Oelwein, Iowa.
After retirement, Jacquelyn and Stephen pursued their shared passion of antique automobiles. They owned a pair of antique Lincoln Town Cars which they drove to functions sponsored by the Antique Automobile Club of America. They were very active in the club participating in and judging club sanctioned events. They even appeared on the Jay Leno Show with their dear friend and fellow antique automobile enthusiast, David Kolzow. Stephen passed away in 1997. Jacquelyn continued her active participation with the Antique Automobile Club of America.
Several years after Stephen's passing, Jacquelyn married a long time family friend, Milo Floyd, also an antique automobile enthusiast. Jacquelyn's interest in antique automobiles continued until her final days.
Jacquelyn passed away Friday, January 24, 2025, at Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona. She was 85.
Jacquelyn is survived by her brother, Robert Dotson, of Algona, along with his children and grandchildren.
Preceding Jacquelyn in death are her parents; first husband, Stephen McCarthy; second husband, Milo Floyd; sister, Melinda Dotson; and sister-in-law, Mary Ann Dotson.
