Jacquelyn Ann Stock was the second child born to Paul and Elenore Goodin on January 2nd, 1941, in North Minneapolis. Jacquelyn had one brother Paul (Buzz) who was her only sibling and 3 years her senior. As a little girl, Jackie was quiet and shy with beautiful blue eyes and curly hair that formed spiral ringlets around her face. Jackie's parent's marriage ended, when Jackie was one. Despite this hardship, her mother taught her and Buzz the importance of love and family, and Jackie kept her relationship with her Father through letter writing and visits when he came home from his Merchant Marine tours. As an adult, Jackie and her husband John enjoyed their visits with Paul at both their home and the Goodin Homestead in Dayton, Mn. In 1973 they took a family trip out to California and in 1980, Jackie flew out to visit her dad by herself. Of that trip, she said was one of best things that she did for herself as it gave her quality time with her Father.
When Jackie was 3, Elenore married Martin Rusinko, whom Jackie lovingly called "Marty" throughout her lifetime. Marty meant the world to Jackie! He was quite a character as well as a person of influence in both Jackie's and Buzz's life. It was Marty who brought her first dog home. Jackie was so Elated, that she asked her mom and Marty if she could name the dog, Happy!! Jackie grew up alongside Happy for 15 years of her childhood.
In her North Mpls neighborhood, there were lots of kids to play with, but mostly boys, so it was no surprise that when a new family with lots of girls moved in across the street, her mom encouraged her to go and knock on the front door and introduce herself. This was a feat for Jackie at 7 years old, as she had a shy and quiet demeanor. Jackie's Courage won out that day and she knocked on the Burch family front door. As luck would have it, she met her very Best Friend, Kay Burch (Raffensparger).
Jackie and Kay enjoyed many fun adventures together growing up, they especially enjoyed working at the vegetable farm with Marty during the day and then selling the sweet corn out of the back of the truck in the early evening.
One of these adventures involved Kay introducing Jackie to John Stock during a telephone conversation when they were in 6th grade. As Kay and John were talking, it was Jackie's giggles in the background that caught John's attention. He asked Kay, "Who's that giggling?" Kay said, "Oh, that's Jackie Goodin," Jackie and John's interest in meeting each other was piqued that day, so they all planned to meet at Folwell Park in North Mpls. After their meeting, Jackie agreed to let John give her a "Buck" home on his bike, and the rest is history. Jackie and John were Soul Mates for 71 years from that day on and celebrated 65 years of marriage last June. Jackie's life was blessed in marriage and in friendship, as her and Kay in March celebrated 77 years of being Best Friends~
Jackie attended Patrick Henry High School in North Minneapolis as did John. Her years in high school were filled with fun activities, wonderful friends and great memories. Jackie was involved in: GAA; Y-Teens; Cheerleading; Senior Advisory; Pep Club and was a Homecoming Attendant in her Senior year. After graduation, she always looked forward to her "Girls Club" luncheons; as well as her and John's Patrick Henry Class Reunions.
In fact there's a rumor that on their 40th class reunion, they were out so late that two of their kids called the Hennepin county Sheriff at 3:00am to report that they hadn't made it home yet. To which the reply from the deputy was, "Paybacks Are Tough!" "I'm sure they're alright!" All was well at 5:30am when they tiptoed into the house giggling and laughing like two high schoolers.
Jackie and John were married June 27th, 1959, and soon welcomed their first born son John Martin in November of that same year. Thirteen months later in December of 1960, Jennifer Ann was born. In January of 1965, Joan Marie was born, and in March of 1970, Justine Sophia was born. Jackie had all four of her children by the time she was 29.
Jackie worked outside of the home as a Long Distance Telephone Operator for Northwestern Bell in downtown Minneapolis for 5 years, until shortly before Justine was born. Then In 1977, when the kids were older, Jackie applied for a job at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale in the dietary department. At North, Jackie traversed 5 miles a day pushing heavy food carts and delivering individual dinner trays to patients. On one particular day, Jackie entered the postpartum room of a patient who was just about to faint as she stood up. Due to Jackie's quick thinking and speed, she caught her just in time or she would have been seriously injured.
Throughout her career at North, Jackie was recognized by her supervisors and peers for her many attributes and strong work ethic. Jackie's bright beautiful smile and caring personality lit up every patient's room that she walked into and her concern and care for both patients and co-workers was unmatched. Jackie retired from North in 2003 at the age of 62, after 26 years of service.
Jackie's most cherished role was that of being a Mother and Grandma to her children and grandkids! Jackie loved being at home with her children, especially when they were young. Jackie's children share these memories about their Mother: Mom was kind, loving and her love was unconditional. She was always there for us and was a great cook! Every day coming home from school we could smell the aromas of something freshly baked: Bread; caramel rolls; cookies; pie; cake or bars. On our Birthdays, she would make our favorite dinner and birthday cake; Let's talk pies: Triple berry, lemon meringue, apple, blueberry, cherry, and if you ever were lucky enough to get a taste of one of her quick breads: Banana, and BB bread, you are no doubt still talking about it!!! Jackie shared her baking creations with all her family and friends over the years and with anyone in need of a "Pick Me Up!"
Her son John shared, "She loved so well and loved selflessly, but she was tough on us when we needed it!" Jennifer, Joan and Justine's favorite memories was when she would come upstairs to their dormer bedroom at the house in Crystal to wake them up while singing the song, Mockingbird Hill! or "I Can't Get Em Up!!! Everyone Loved Mom! Mom loved to garden and had both a vegetable and several flower gardens. She assigned each of her girls their own flower garden to take care of and taught us how to take care of it. Mom had a knack for finding garage sales with Grandma Stock, she taught us how to sew and cross stitch; and we loved how she adopted John's sister Mary, as the Sister she never had~
Mom took the very best care of us all and that included our family dogs. One time in particular when Pepper returned to the back door in the morning, after being lost overnight, she washed him, gave him an aspirin and wrapped him up in a warm blanket. Mom read, underlined in her bible and prayed daily!
Mom had a great sense of humor, she loved being silly which almost always involved some dancing in the kitchen along with swinging a dish towel. She had her fun way of putting on her lipstick, making sure to "Smack" her lips together at the end of each application.
She loved to play games: scrabble; boggle; cards and enjoyed puzzles. Mom taught us how to care for our new born babies. She loved to shovel snow and rake all while keeping a clean house.
Grandma made the best chocolate chip cookies, crunchy yet melted in the middle, and when you stayed overnight at any age, grandma would take a warm blanket out of the dryer, wrap you up in it, and tuck it in around you for the night! Grandma taught us how to Love Well and both her and Grandpa made the best bacon and egg breakfasts! We all loved to come and listen to her and Grandpa crack jokes and tell stories about their 71 years of friendship and Love.
Jackie was a master cook and especially gifted at whipping up something to eat in a hurry and then presenting it like you were sitting in a Michelin Restaurant. These creations included anything from a grilled cheese sandwich to a pork chop dinner and everything in between, and it all tasted amazing because her best ingredient was that it was made with LOVE!!!!!!! You always left Jackie's house with a full belly, a gift in your hands, and with your heart full of her Unconditional Love~
