Jacquelyn A. Westergaard, 89, of Dubuque, died Thursday, December 5, 2024, at the Luther Manor in Dubuque.
Jacquelyn, known to family and friends as Jackie, was born October 6, 1935, in Phenix City, AL, the daughter of William "Blake" and Lydia "Lallie" (Garner) Arrington. On October 5, 1958, she married Peter C. Westergaard in Americus, Georgia. He preceded her in death on July 13, 2017.
After graduating college, Jackie was a TV personality in both Georgia and Iowa. Her proudest role was as Miss Jackie, "The Romper Room Girl," for the Des Moines affiliate of the show. She went on to become a marketing manager at a Des Moines based spray nozzle manufacturer for 20 years. Following that career, she and her husband owned a Pak Mail franchise in Memphis, Tennessee.
Jackie had a deep passion for both knitting and crocheting, often crafting beautiful pieces that she loved sharing with her friends and family. When she wasn't creating, she could be found immersed in mystery novels or science fiction, with a special love for murder mystery shows. A woman of strong faith practiced within the United Methodist church, Jackie was also incredibly hardworking and took great pride in caring for her family, always putting their needs above her own. She was the primary care giver for her husband as he battled Parkinson's disease in the later stages of his life.
Survivors include a daughter, Angie (Mike Campana) Westergaard of Dubuque; a son, Jeff (Liz) Westergaard of Wheaton, IL; five grandsons, Ben, Jamie, Randy, Anthony, and Brian; two great-grandchildren, Colette and Caoimhe; sister-in-law, JoEllen (Bud) Riemenschneider of Des Moines; and two nephews.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.
A special thank you to Luther Manor and Hospice of Dubuque for their compassionate care of Jackie.
