Jake Richard "J. R." Jewell

Mr. Jake Richard "J. R." Jewell, age 81, of Douglas, Georgia, passed away Monday, January 5, 2026, at HCA Florida Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida following a recent illness.

J. R. was born November 11, 1944, in Coffee County, Georgia, to the late Isom Jewell and the late Oneda Phillips Jewell. He was a farmer and outdoorsman all his life. He loved his family dearly and enjoyed time spent with his children and grandchildren and watching the animals around his home. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Along with his parents, J. R. was preceded in death by a son, Brandon Jake Jewell, 3 brothers: Merrill Jewell, Harvey Jewell, and Gerald Jewell; as well as 3 sisters: Barbara Knight, Bernice Crosby, and Doris Mizell.

J. R. leaves behind his loving wife of 40 years, Darlene Hadsock Jewell, of Douglas, Georgia; a son, Richard Shannon Jewell of Douglas, Georgia; a grandson, Richard Blake Jewell of Douglas, Georgia; a great granddaughter, Paislee Jewell of Douglas, Georgia; as well as 3 sisters: Shirley Meeler of Douglas, Georgia, Donna Paulk of Alma, Georgia, Judy Lott of Douglas, Georgia; and a number of nieces, nephews and extended family members.

A funeral will be held for J. R. on Saturday, January 10, 2026, in the Ricketson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jerry Waldron, and Rev. Chris Waldron officiating. Interment will follow in Utah Cemetery in Atkinson, County. His family will receive friends at Ricketson Funeral Home on Friday evening, January 9, 2026, from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM.

Active pallbearers will include Jason Jewell, Jody Jewell, Chad Jewell, Jed Jewell, Scottie Jewell, and Blake Jewell.
