Jake Curtis Kirk, affectionately known to many as “J.C.,” was born on May 10, 1954 to the late Mattie Lou Hills and the late Elester Kirk. He departed this life on May 18, 2025. Jake lived a life of discipline, service, and unwavering commitment to purpose.

Jake was educated in the public schools of Florence County school system.

Jake served his country honorably as a Sergeant (SGT) in the United States Army, embodying the strength, leadership, and dedication that inspired those who followed him. His disciplined approach to life and service earned him the respect of his fellow soldiers and the enduring love of his community and family.

Jake believed in the power of purpose. One of his most cherished beliefs was: “To live life, you must understand the goal of life is not promising, but life is determined by the directions we choose.” He often punctuated his wisdom with his favorite phrase — “That Part!”

He was a man of principle, vision, and strength — a foundation not only for his family, but for the many lives he influenced through his service and his words.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Mattie Lou Hills and Elester Kirk.

Jake’s legacy continues through his loving family: his children Van C. Kirk and Nita L. Kirk; grandchildren Saiton (Ebony) Kirk, Siede Davis; and great-grandchildren Kamora Kirk and Kamaya Kirk. He is also remembered fondly by his siblings: Tommy L. Kirk, James Edward Kirk, Maylester (Tony) Butler, Jeannie Mae Fred, and Joseph Mitchell, along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends who will cherish his guidance and presence.

Please keep the Jake Curtis "J.C." Kirk in your thoughts and prayers.
