James Franklin Hanson Jr. “Jim” Knoxville, TN

September 8, 1963 – September 20, 2025

James “Jim” Franklin Hanson Jr., 62, of Knoxville, passed away on September 20, 2025. Jim was a proud Tennessean and a die-hard Vols fan who truly bled orange. From football Saturdays filled with cheering and laughter to lively debates about the team’s greatest moments, Jim’s passion for the Vols was infectious and brought joy to everyone around him. He had a lifelong love for computers and technology and built a meaningful career working with SAIC and Apply Logic. His sharp mind, steady work ethic, and willingness to share his knowledge earned him the respect of colleagues and friends alike. Beyond his professional achievements, Jim had a deep fascination with astronomy. He loved gazing at the night sky, studying the stars and planets with the same curiosity and patience he brought to all of life’s pursuits. Outside of work, Jim found peace and contentment in the simple joys of life. Fishing was one of his favorite pastimes, offering quiet moments by the water that reflected his thoughtful and reflective nature. Jim’s life was enriched by a loving family that he cherished deeply.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Cheryl Hanson; former wife, Ronda Smallen Hanson; daughter, Amy Hanson; his adopted parents, Bonnie and James Hanson Sr.; and sister, Mercedes Lee. He is survived by his grandson, Devin Hanson; daughter, Carla and Rick Davenport, and her children, Stephen and Sierra; three great-granddaughters; niece, Kayla Smallen and her spouse, Richard Croley, and their children; along with extended family and friends who will forever remember his warmth, humor, and generous spirit. Jim’s laughter, love, and unwavering cheer of “Go Vols!” will be remembered and celebrated by all who knew him.
