James Bradford “Brad” Ackerman, 76, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on October 28, 2025 — a date made even more meaningful as it marked what would have been his and Andrea’s 47th wedding anniversary.

Brad was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Andrea Ackerman, who passed away in January; his parents, Jeanne and William Ackerman; and his brothers, Bill and Tom Ackerman. He is survived by his children, Matt Ackerman (Rhiannon), Aimee Shultz (Seth), and Emilee Atkins (Jay). He was the proud Pap of seven grandchildren: Annie and Nolan Ackerman, Andrew and Oliver Shultz, and Brinlee, Reed, and Deen Atkins. He is also survived by his best friends, Jack and Denise Maher, along with many other lifelong friends.

Brad was a steady and supportive presence to those who knew him. He loved bringing people together and was always eager to host a party or gathering. He volunteered as a coach for his children’s sports for many years, teaching lessons that went far beyond the field.

An outdoorsman through and through, Brad never missed the first day of deer season or trout season and cherished the traditions that came with them. In healthier years, he enjoyed fishing, golfing, gardening, and spending time outside. He was a long-standing social member of the Hannastown Volunteer Firemen’s Club, the Crabtree Volunteer Firemen’s Club, and the Keystone Rod and Gun Club, where he shared many good times with great friends.

Brad was passionate about his faith, his family, politics, and sports, and those who knew him will remember his strong opinions and steadfast loyalty to the people and values he cared most about.

Brad will be cremated, and his close family will celebrate his life in the great outdoors he so deeply loved. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Brad’s memory to the Hannastown Volunteer Firemen’s Club.

As part of the All Saints Sunday service honoring all church members who have passed away this year, Brad’s life will be acknowledged during the 10 a.m. Sunday worship service on November 2nd at Greensburg First United Methodist Church, 15 East Second Street, Greensburg, PA.
