James Allen Anderson (Jan 8, 1946 - Nov 10, 2024)
It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James Allen Anderson, who left us peacefully, surrounded by family on Sunday, Nov 10, 2024 at the age of 78. Born on Jan 8, 1946, in Jamestown, New York, to the late Rudolph and Kathryn Anderson (nee Hastings), James lived a life of dedication, service, and faith. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy. After being honorably discharged, he came home and started his career as a firefighter, risking his life to protect and serve his community. He also worked as an ironworker, working on structures, as well as building lasting bonds with his colleagues.
A man of faith, James believed strongly in the power of prayer, kindness, and giving back. He was an active member of Riverwood Chapel, where he found strength and support, and where he shared his love of God with others.
Outside of his professional careers, James was an avid sports enthusiast. Whether watching a game, discussing strategies, or spending time on the golf course, he loved every opportunity to stay active and engaged. His passion for golf was well-known, and he found joy in both the challenge of the game and the camaraderie it brought. Many fond memories were made with friends and family on the greens, where his competitive spirit shone brightly, but his kindness and generosity were always at the forefront.
Above all, James was a devoted father and grandfather. His greatest joy was his family, and he took immense pride in watching his children and grandchildren grow. He taught them the importance of hard work, perseverance, and, most importantly, love. He was their rock, their mentor, and their greatest supporter.
James is survived by his wife Linda Anderson (nee Zirnfus); children James (Melissa) Anderson and Jennifer (James) Hogue; cherished grandchildren Madeline and Cale Anderson, Adam (Sharon), Nolan, and Grace Hogue, and great-grandson, Anderson Edward Hogue; siblings Patti Smith, Dennis Anderson, and Jack (Kathy) Anderson; and a host of extended family and dear friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him, and his memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Riverwood Chapel (1407 Fairchild Ave, Kent, OH 44240) on Saturday, Nov 23, 2024.
2:00pm - Gather & Greet Family
3:00pm - Celebration of Life Service
4:00pm - Post Service Gathering w/ Light Refreshments
For all that knew him, James prioritized finding joy in life. He found great joy in helping others. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in c/o James Anderson to Riverwood Chapel - Missions & Outreach. James was very active with the Nursing Home Ministry Outreach Program. Your support and generosity are greatly appreciated.

Met Jimmy at Chippewa Golf course in 2009. He was with Ron Scalera and Sandy McCloud. They invited me to join them. The four of us became fast long time friends. Jimmy was like a machine when he played golf. He was not long with his clubs, but he knew exactly how far each would go. He asked me how I hit it so far and I told him that was easy when you have no idea where the ball is going. His ball went down the center nearly every time. I'd be 60 yards further but even God sometimes did not know where my ball was going. I told Jimmy I envied his accuracy. On one occasion he brought his clubs to me to "tweak a little more distance" out of them. So I bent the heads down so he could get maybe 4 more yards per club. It messed his game up so badly that he brought them back to have me bend them back where they were to start with. He said, "they are out of control".

Jimmy and I talked about many things in our 13 years of playing golf both outdoors and indoors. No matter where our conversations started it seemed that it always came around to something going on in his family. His family was the most important thing in the world to him. He talked about the antics of grandkids mostly. He enjoyed spending time with them anytime he could.

The one funny event I remember with Jimmy was he was having some severe back pain on the golf course. He had taken all the meds he could but was still in pain. I don't remember what course we were on but at one point Jimmy hit his shot and then just laid down in the fairway to stretch. No one saw him do this. In a minute or so there were 10 golf carts converging on his spot in the fairway to see what the heck was going on. As the carts arrived, Jimmy sat up on his side and said something like "I didn't know you cared" with this big grin on his face. I guess we thought it was a heart attack - we laughed about this that whole summer.

I've missed Jimmy ever since we moved away back in 2022. I'm thankful that Jimmy knew Jesus in this life. That gives me the hope that not long from now, I'll see him again.

To Jimmy's family my deepest sympathy. Dwell on the good times and the wonderful memories created by the life of this wonderful man. I pray that God will give you peace during this difficult time.
