"True love cannot be found where it does not exist, nor can it be denied where it does."
Jimmy and Shirley met in Gainesville, Texas 45 years ago. Shirley worked in the food industry at that time and Jimmy on the Texas oil rigs and as an "over the road trucker". They shared a mutual interest in music (Elvis, Conway, Johnny, George, Waylon and Willie). In their early days they would often go across the river to Johnny's Dance Hall in Oklahoma. There they would shoot some pool and dance the night away to all their favorite songs, ending the night to Cotton Eye Joe. They also really enjoyed having visitors and visiting Shirley's parents and siblings to play cards or a game of dominoes at each others kitchen tables. Jimmy liked to fish and Shirley liked to read so they would pack up and go to the Red River with their giant Doberman (Doby). Jimmy and Doby would fish for hours and Shirley would sit in a chair by the bank with a good book. Jimmy taught Shirley how to drive an 18 wheeler so she could be his partner (team drivers) over the road. They traveled the country together, logging many miles in that truck. Their lives in Texas were over flowing with food, fellowship, friends and family.
"Grow old with me, the best is yet to come". Robert Browning.
Ten years ago due to some health issues, they made the move to
Mountain Home, Arkansas to be close to Shirley's three daughters. Even though Texas was always home in their hearts, they did appreciate the beauty of Arkansas. Shirley's and Jimmy's 10 years in Arkansas were happy ones. They enjoyed the many family gatherings and phone calls from loved ones, Sunday dinners and holidays and drop in visitors. All were welcome. Shirley loved to talk and Jimmy would get a word in now and then. Jimmy and Shirley spent their last few years "porch sitting". There they enjoyed the deer, squirrels and bird watching, especially the hummingbirds. They would listen to good old gospel, classic country and some Elvis on their porch with their pups in their laps or running in the yard. They lived a good life together; a life of love and laughter, a life of love for God, country, each other and all their combined families near and far. We will truly miss you both.
John 3:16
