Word has been received of the death of James W. Arcand, 85, of Lawton.
Mr. Arcand passed away on Saturday, March 29, 2025.
James was born on July 2, 1939 in Browning, Montana to Peter N. and Mildred (Gray) Arcand. After school he joined the United States Army, serving one tour in Vietnam. Before his retirement, he received many medals and awards during his service that include the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal with 3 Award, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Cluster, Air Medal, Air Crewman Badge, the Bronze Star Medal, Bronze Qualification Badge, and the Republic of Germany O/S Bars. He met the love of his life, Sharron Turner, in 2007 and together they made their home in Lawton, OK where they bought an old property to remodel and resale. He was a proud tribe member of the Little Shell Tribe of the Chippewa Indians of Montana and he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and woodworking, making tables and benches out of cedar and walnut. He also enjoyed making crosses, the last set that he made are on display at the Cache Creek Cowboy Church. Jim was a loving and generous husband, father, grandfather, and friend who will be missed dearly.
He is survived by his companion, Sharron; his wife, Helga Arcand; his sister, Sharyn Nickum; his children, Ren'e Allen and Gwen Arcand; his grandsons, James and Tyler; his 18 year old dog, Buddy; and many other loving family members.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Wilbur Pete Arcand and Edward Thomas Arcand.
