James Homer Ashe, 73, of the Wilmot Community went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 22, 2025 at his residence. Homer, as most knew him, was a loving husband, father, grandpa, brother, son, uncle, and loyal friend to so many. He was born in Jackson County to the late Cornelious and Ethel Ashe. Homer was raised in the Wilmot Community along with nine siblings. He retired from APAC after thirteen years where he many lifetime friends. After retirement he enjoyed the simple life of working on his properties and home with his loving wife, Mary, and being a Papaw. Homer always had a story to tell and never met a stranger.
In addition to his parents, Homer was preceded in death by his sisters; Gerlene Ashe, Pauline Kalin, Opal Bumgarner, Barbara Miller, Shirley Bumgarner, and his brother, Harl Ashe.
Those left to cherish his memory are wife, Mary Ashe of the home; son, Brandon Phillips (Heather); daughter, Kimberly Hampton (Bobby); grandchildren, Morgyn Cunningham (Reaves), Madyson Cunningham (Hayden), Charley Orcutt, Austin Hampton, Daniel Hampton, Lucy Phillips, Annie Phillips, Macie Craig, Parker Craig and Hunter Craig; great grandson, Laken Stillwell; sisters, Evalina Davis, Elaine Jones; and brother, Cory Ashe, Jr. (Peggy). Several special nieces and nephews who were very close to his heart, also survive.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, May 25, 2025 in the chapel of Appalachian Funeral Services with the Rev. Eddie Stillwell and Rev. Austin Frady officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow in Wilmot Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Houston, Brandon Phillips, Bobby Hampton, Reaves Stillwell, David Cope, Dustin Cope, and Mickey Rathbone.
The family would like to give special "thank you" to Four Seasons Hospice for all the kindness and care provided and to Katherine Houston and Betty "Cricket" Houston for their loving support in the hardest of times.
