James "Jim" Barker, age 78, passed away on Friday, July 18, 2025 at Caromont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia. He was born in Gaston County, son of the late Hollis and Helen Barker. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Vicky Jean Barker.
Jim will be remembered as a loving family man who always made sure his family had everything they needed and then some. He spent his entire career as a machinist in the tool industry where he operated his own business J & B Tool Making for many years. He and his wife had a passion for animals especially Horses and Goats and their dogs. He also found happiness while watching sports on TV especially NASCAR, baseball, and basketball. In his spare time, he could be often be found riding his Harley or his tractor.
Those left to cherish his memory include his children: Amy Barker and her husband Steven Green, and Donnie Caudill; his sister Donna Murphy; grandson Christopher Caudill; his nieces: Lori and Dawn Murphy, nephew Scott Murphy, as well as many of his cousins.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday July 24, 2025 in the Chapel of Woodlawn Funeral Home in Mount Holly with Pastor Keith Sherrill officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Thursday also at the Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Gardens Cemetery in Mount Holly.
