James Barnes Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Mission Park Funeral Chapels and Cemetery Dominion on Jan. 4, 2026.
James "Jim" Thomas Barnes, 66, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away on December 5, 2025. Born on January 15, 1959, in Indianapolis, Indiana, Jim was a devoted husband, father, and friend whose life was defined by love, service, and adventure.

Jim was married to his beloved wife, Carina Wallace Barnes, for 31 years. Together, they raised two beautiful children: Megan Nicole Barnes and Matthew Thomas Barnes, who preceded him in death in 2021. Jim's greatest joy was his family, and he dedicated his life to caring for them and creating lasting memories.

Jim proudly served his country as a member of the National Guard and later built a successful career as an Information Technology Lead, where he was admired for his expertise and leadership. He was also a man of faith, attending Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church for 15 years and previously Saint Francis & Clare of Assisi Catholic Church in Greenwood, Indiana.

Outside of work and service, Jim embraced life with enthusiasm. He loved fishing, boating, bowling, cycling, and running-completing mini marathons with determination and pride. He enjoyed scuba diving and dancing, and he had a special talent for coaching youth sports, dedicating years to mentoring his children's basketball and soccer leagues. His love for animals was evident in the care he gave to his many dogs and cats throughout the years.

Jim will be remembered for his kindness, humor, and unwavering work ethic. He valued family and friendships above all and lived each day with generosity and joy.

He is survived by his wife, Carina Wallace Barnes; his daughter, Megan Nicole Barnes; his nephew, David Skaggs; his cousins, Jim and Jeff Rhodes and Beverly Harris ("Joey"); and his cherished dogs, Casper and Hiroshi.
