Atlanta, GA- Funeral services for James Dwight Barras, 68, who passed away on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026 at Notre Dame Catholic Church at 11:00 AM. Visitation will begin at 9 AM until the time of services. A Holy Rosary will be held at 9:30.

James D. Barras was born in Lafayette, LA on May 28, 1957 to the late John and Irene P. Barras. Dwight earned his angel wings on Tuesday, January 27, 2026 when God called him from labor to reward. Dwight was a fun, loving, hardworking, kind, and family oriented man.

The things that Dwight enjoyed most in life was cooking, watching television and spending time with family. Dwight found joy in the simple pleasures of life and cherished the moments spent in his community. He especially loved talking to the young people: helping to motivate and inspire them. One of his greatest joys was spending time with the love of his life, his best friend, prayer partner, his best wife ever, Donna Wiltz Barras.

Dwight and Donna moved to Atlanta, GA in 1996 and worked for CW Matthew’s Construction for 30 years. He retired in September 2023. He was such a dedicated worker that he could not resist and returned to work a month later.

Dwight was known for his humble spirit and warm personality. He loved coming home to fish and of course, spending that time with his family and friends. Uncle Ba, as he was affectionately called, was one of a kind. Although he was not a man of many words, he always spoked the truth and when he said “WHAT!!”, it spoke volumes.

Dwight was an amazing young man and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. Rest on for your work is done here on earth. God has greater things for you to do. Dwight continue to watch over your beautiful and lovely queen, your wife Donna, but rest assured we got her Uncle Ba.

Dwight is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Donna Wiltz Barras; three (3) brothers: Wendell (Marlene) Barras, Sr. of Houston, TX, Ronald (Rose) Barras of Killeen, TX, and Gerald Barras of St. Martinville, LA; two (2) brothers in law, who were more like brothers: Daniel James and Rodney Savoy, Sr.; seven (7) sisters in law, who were more like sisters: Clara Barras, Janise Barras, Linda Lewis, Audrey Stone, Carolyn (Pat) Wiltz, Cynthia (Fred) Boyo, Patricia Wiltz, and Lois Batiste; one (1) Godchild: Antonio Joseph; one (1) best friends: Rodney Gerard; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents: John “J.B.” Barras and Irene Patt Barras;his one (1) sister: Sandra Barras; his four (4) brothers: Horace Barras, John Barras III, Thaddeus Barras, and Donald Barras; his four (4) nephews: Ricky Wiltz, Nathaniel James, Gerald Barras, and Rodney Savoy, Jr.; one (1) great nephew: Aiden Rhys Morris; one (1) great niece: Brajanae Lastrapes; James;  his two (2) sisters in law: Virginia Wiltz and Gayle Wiltz; his seven (7) brothers in law: Joseph, Leroy, Walter, Nelson, Hebert, Gralie, and Charlie.
