Pastor James "Jim" Baughman, a devoted servant of the Lord, passed away on July 9, 2023, at his residence in Pierceton, Indiana. He was born on December 11, 1968, in Pikeville, Kentucky to John and Jean (Lee) Baughman. Pastor Jim was known for his unwavering faith, selfless dedication to his community, and love for his family.
Jim graduated from East High School in 1985. After high school he went on to earn his masters in Pastoral Studies at Faith Baptist Bible College in Iowa where he met his wife Elaine Feenstra. The two were married on May 16, 1992.
Pastor Jim embarked on his ministry journey in 1993. He has served as the pastor of Bethel Baptist Church in Pierceton since 2003.
Throughout his career as a pastor, he touched countless lives with his compassionate nature and genuine care for others. Pastor Jim had an infectious enthusiasm that endeared him to the congregation and made him beloved by all. He possessed an indomitable spirit and an unwavering commitment to the teachings and principles of the Christian faith.
Outside of his pastoral duties, Pastor Jim was well-known for his love of outdoor activities and sports. He possessed the heart of a child and could often be found participating in various outdoor adventures. He particularly cherished spending quality time with his beloved wife, Elaine, their children, and grandchildren. His mechanical prowess was renowned among those who knew him - there was hardly anything he couldn't fix.
A pillar of strength within the Pierceton community, Pastor Jim also served as an active firefighter with the Pierceton Volunteer Fire Department. His commitment to public service extended beyond the walls of the church as he dedicated himself to ensuring the safety and well-being of others in the community.
In addition to serving as a spiritual leader and firefighter, Pastor Jim excelled in various hobbies and interests. Hunting and fishing provided him solace amidst nature's beauty while carpentry and construction allowed him to showcase his remarkable craftsmanship. Additionally, he found joy in umpiring at the local baseball diamonds and coaching the youth in their baseball endeavors.
Pastor James Baughman will be dearly missed by his surviving family and friends. He is survived by his loving wife, Elaine Baughman, who shared his life's joys with. He leaves behind cherished memories for his children: Josh (Anne) Baughman of Pierceton, Christa Baughman of Columbia City, Zachariah (Mary) Baughman of Claypool, and Stephanie Baughman of Pierceton. His legacy continues through his four adored grandchildren: Clay, Alivia, Amara, and Josiah. In addition, he is survived by his parents John and Jean Baughman of Pierceton and three siblings; Jane (Timothy) Silcott of Arizona, Jeffery (Sanae) Baughman of California, and Jerry (Roz) Baughman of Ohio and their families.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, an infant child, and an infant grandchild.
Pastor Jim's spirit will forever live on as a beacon of hope within the hearts of those he touched. He will be remembered for his unwavering faith in God and his profound impact on the lives he encountered. Pastor Jim's legacy serves as an enduring reminder to love unconditionally, serve selflessly, and always strive to make a positive difference in the world.
Arrangements are entrusted to Titus Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Warsaw. Family members, friends, and community members are invited to attend the visitation service to pay their respects on Friday, July 14, 2023. The visitation will take place from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Pierceton Elementary School located at 434 S First St in Pierceton, Indiana.
A Life Celebration® to honor the life of Pastor Jim will be held on Saturday, July 15, 2023. The service will commence at 10:30 AM at Pierceton Elementary School. Following the service, he will be laid to rest at Hillcrest Cemetery, in Pierceton.
In remembrance of Pastor James "Jim" Baughman's life of faith and service to others, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Bethel Baptist Church, 1109 W. Market Street, Pierceton, IN.
