James Beck Obituary

Published by Legacy on Oct. 1, 2025.
James Edward Beck, 91, was a life-long resident of York, PA and peacefully passed away on August 4, 2025 at his residence at Normandie Ridge in York.
Jim was a 1952 graduate of William Penn High School and joined the US Navy after his high school graduation. He served as a Medical Corpsman for the US Navy during the Korean War. He then attended and graduated from Lock Haven University obtaining his teaching degree where he also met the love of his life, Jean Louise Wagner. Jim and Jean shared 43 wonderful years of marriage while Jim taught as a Physical Education teacher at Dallastown Area High School for 37 years where he also coached many of their sports teams from wrestling, track & field to swimming. Jim also enjoyed his many years spent as an instructor for the Learn To Swim Program at Dallastown High School. He thoroughly enjoyed watching and discussing sports of all kinds, especially with his grandsons, BUT nothing more than his beloved Boston Red Sox and the York Revolution. Jim was the true definition of a family man and loving father and grandfather. He also enjoyed traveling abroad with his wife Jean, taking family beach vacations to Rehoboth Beach where he became TikTok famous for being the bumper car driving, crab hat wearing grandpa (search for it... it's hilarious!!!) and hosting the Annual Beck Family Oyster Bowls.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Mildred Beck, brother David, lovely wife Jean Louise Beck (Wagner) and granddaughter, Alyssa Elaine (Beck) Baumann. He is survived by his brothers, Richard and Steven Beck, his three children, Tasha, Corin and his wife Danne' and Shay and her husband Kyle, his six grandchildren, Evan, Jacob, Austin, Hunter, Allie & Grant AND his one beautiful recently arrived great granddaughter, Rosalie Beck.
Upon Jim's and his family's request, guests are encouraged to wear their favorite sports team's jersey. Preferably baseball but any sport jersey would be perfect! Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. with the celebration of life at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 9, 2025, at Yorkshire United Methodist Church, 125 Edgewood Rd., York. Burial with full military rites presented by the York County Veterans Honor Guard will immediately follow in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. The John W. Keffer Funeral Homes and Crematory, Inc., York are entrusted with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Children's Home of York, 77 Shoe House Rd, York, PA 17402 or the York Twinning Association, PO Box 2465, York, PA 17405.
