James Ray Bedwell, a cherished family pillar and esteemed member of the Sumrall community, passed away peacefully on April 8, 2025, at the age of 75. Born on April 26, 1949, in Hattiesburg, MS, he was a man deeply rooted in his heritage and dedicated to his loved ones. After a fulfilling career in the oilfields, James retired at the age of 50 but continued to work with a passion for craftsmanship in rental houses and various carpentry projects. His work was more than a job-it was a showcase of his skill and a testament to his unwavering diligence. An avid fisherman and gardener, James found serenity in the ebb and flow of the rivers and the bloom of Southern flora. He also enjoyed the lively atmosphere of the casino, where he was known for his warm presence and friendly banter. James's life was a journey marked by hard work, resilience, and the joy of simple pleasures. His legacy endures in the hearts of those he touched, and in every sunrise that graces the Mississippi landscape he loved so dearly.
James was preceded in death by his parents Earnest and Mamie Bedwell; his beloved wife Ellen Bedwell; and a legacy of siblings-Millard, Roy, Wayne, Johnny Bedwell, Molly Tingle, Hazel Johnson, Ethel Lee Johnson, one grandson Jonathon Bedwell. He leaves behind a treasured tapestry of family, including his devoted sisters, Brenda Bedwell Miller and Patricia Gillette; his sons Jason (and wife Sharon) Bedwell and Ben Bedwell; his grandchildren Blake, Derian, Nathan, and Kailey; and the joy of his later years, ten great-grandchildren. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Bedwell family in their time of need and we ask that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers through the days ahead.
