Mulhane Home For Funerals - MillburyMILLBURY- James E. Bengtson, 67, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 26, 2025, after a seven-year battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP), at Rose Monahan Hospice House in Worcester.
Jim is survived by his devoted wife of 43 years, Cynthia (McDermott) Bengtson; his sons, James Bengtson and his wife Emily, and Justin Bengtson and his wife Jessica, all of Millbury; and his cherished grandchildren, Cailyn, Logan, James, and Wyatt, who brought him immense joy.
He also leaves behind his siblings, Jon, David, Gayle, Christina, Erik, Andrew, Linnea, and Frank. Jim was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Florence (Stidsen) Bengtson, and his brother, Wally Bengtson.
A graduate of Millbury Memorial High School, Class of 1977, Jim owned and operated J.E. Bengtson Stone Mason for over 30 years. A master stonemason, he worked throughout Massachusetts, particularly in Millbury, Sutton, and Grafton, alongside his sons, brother, and nephews. His craftsmanship was easily recognized by its distinctive style, and he took great pride in building walls, fireplaces, patios, and various stone structures.
In his spare time, Jim enjoyed working in his barn, where he loved woodworking and making birdhouses. He was an avid reader, loved his daily walks to the Knoll, and during the summer months could often be found swimming laps in the pool. He enjoyed playing cards with his brothers, a pastime that brought him laughter and joy. Above all, Jim treasured time spent with his family—especially his grandchildren, who meant the world to him.
Family and friends are invited to gather for Jim’s Celebration of Life which will be held this coming summer on Sunday, June 7, 2026 from Noon to 4 p.m. at the Asa Waters Mansion, 123 Elm Street, Millbury MA 01527
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim’s memory to Cure PSP at give.curepsp.org
